Warm Up: Have HW (Mood Poem) on your desk. Take out your Poetry Term Worksheet Agenda: Allusion-Review Term Bio Info Tupac & Vincent Van Gogh “Starry Night” by Tupac Ticket Out the Door Homework: Study Poetry Terms

2 Today’s Objectives: Given information on two artists, students will be able to identify similarities between the two artists. Given a poem, students will be able to identify and analyze the use of allusion. Given information about a poet, students will identify meaning behind the poem.

3 *Allusion: When a work of literature refers to:
A famous event in history Another famous work of art (literature, characters, art, music) Another famous person That event, piece or art, or person has something in common with a topic in that work.

4 Examples: “The Utterly Perfect Murder”-Doug refers to Ahab from Moby Dick b/c they were both considered crazy. In Speak, Anderson refers to the famous May Angelou b/c both Angelou and Melinda both were raped and chose not to speak as a result. In Speak, Anderson had “Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer” playing b/c both Rudolph and Melinda were outcasts.
