5. GIASIP P artnership Global Invasive Alien Species Information Partnership

6. Objectives The GIASIPartnership has come together in order to assist Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity, and others, implement Article 8(h) and Target 9 of the Aichi Biodiversity Targets : “By 2020, invasive alien species and pathways are identified and prioritized, priority species are controlled or eradicated, and measures are in place to manage pathways to prevent their introduction and establishment”

7. Working Groups During its first phase, the following Working Groups are established: 1. The Partnership Gateway functionalities; 2. Database interoperability, data gaps and quality improvement; 3. Information synthesis and assessment; 4. Taxonomic information services; and 5. Best practices for the non-electronic means of information access and exchange.

8. Join us! Since COP11, many organizations have already signed a memorandum of cooperation with the CBD to set up a Global Invasive Alien Species Information Partnership (GIASIP) IUCN/ISSG NHM-London GBIF NHM-Paris

9. GBIF – contributing 10+ years of biodiversity informatics ’construction’ expertise to GEO BON (and GEOSS ) WG8 on Data Integration & Interoperability Advancing with infrastructure to combine species occurrence and abundances data

Main functions: To identify and prioritize key scientific information needed for policymakers and to catalyse efforts to generate new knowledge; To perform regular and timely assessments of knowledge on biodiversity and ecosystem services and their interlinkages; To support policy formulation and implementation by identifying policy-relevant tools and methodologies; To prioritize key capacity-building needs to improve the science- policy interface, and to provide and call for financial and other support for the highest-priority needs related directly to its activities.
