2 BACKGROUND 36 beach/bays/coastal waters monitored nationwide (1996- 2003) Parameters measured: –DO (dissolved oxygen) –BOD (bio-chemical oxygen demand) –pH –Temperature

3 BACKGROUND Part of the advocacy for good water quality Beach Eco-Watch - priority program/activity of the DENR for 2004 57 major beaches identified/monitored since January,2004

4 OBJECTIVE Establish baseline data; Provide updated information on the present quality of the bathing beaches; Inform the mayor/owners to institute mitigating measures to prevent downgrading and improve the quality of their respective bathing beaches and the environs

5 ACTIVITIES The monitoring program includes the following: a)In-situ measurements of pH, Temperature, Dissolved Oxygen b)Sample collection for Total and Fecal Coliform (TC/FC) analyses c)Sample preservation d)Physical observation of the surroundings which may affect the quality of the bathing beaches e)Analyses
