1 Friends Path to Fame Kristin Gonzalez If you were the “Great Humanitarian” for helping the Belgian Relief Aide, I wonder why everyone thinks you are such a bad president. Maybe it is because your plan for the depression was too slow for people. Herbert Hoover Kristin, people did think my plan was too slow but I knew the government didn’t have any money. That’s why I had to deny giving the Bonus Army their money early. Franklin Delano Roosevelt Herbert Hoover, my formidable opponent in the 1932 election. I will beat you because I promise to give immediate, direct aide to the people of the United States. They won’t have to wait for relief. Herbert Hoover FDR, we definitely disagree on what role the government should play in helping the economy recover. My best wishes to you as I hope the people choose what type of program they want from the government and not just make this about being Republican or Democrat. Henry L. Stimson – Secretary of State Hoover, I agree we should remain isolated from events around the world that might force us to enter into another World War. However, we need to watch out for Japan because they are increasingly developing their army and will probably invade mainland China at some point. He suffered the tragic loss of his mother and father at a young age. Then, he was separated from his siblings in order to be raised by his maternal aunt and uncle in Oregon. Attending Stanford University, Herbert Hoover paid his own tuition and earned an engineering degree. Through his work as an engineer in China and eventually creating his own firm in England, Hoover earned the nickname the “Great Engineer.” While living in England during World War I, Hoover recognized the suffering of the Belgian people under the control of the Germans and enduring the British Blockade. He organized the Belgian Relief Aide by working with the political leaders of both Germany and England, essentially saving millions of Belgian lives. This earned him the nickname, the “Great Humanitarian.” Recognized by the US for his outstanding work, prior Presidents chose him to run the Food Administration and Commerce Department. He later felt led to run for President. “We in America today are nearer to the final triumph over poverty than ever before in the history of any land,” “American President: Herbert Hoover.” The Miller Center. 3 My Political Positions By Herbert Hoover (Albums) * Updated 1 day ago Taxes: Hoover passed the Hawley-Smoot Tariff to raise taxes on agricultural imports to the United States of America. This is to protect the prices of crops American farmers make and sell. It will help people buy products from the US (Miller Center). Education: Hoover believed every person had the ability to become prosperous. As a self-made man, he paid his own way through school and thought everyone else should do the same. This way they learn responsibility and work ethic along with an education. (Miller Center) Foreign Relations: Hoover encouraged Congress to pass a debt relief program for European nations’ repayment of World War I costs. He also encouraged Congress to give Germany a small loan to help pay reparations. (Miller Center) National Security: Hoover called for an international movement to disarm nations. He wanted countries to get rid of tanks, airplanes and submarines. France resisted this idea because they feared Germany would one day rebuild their military. (Miller Center) Economy: As part of Hoover’s plan for putting American back to work, he created the idea for building the Hoover Dam. Working as one of the engineers for the project, Hoover helped thousands of men find work and begin making a paycheck. (Miller Center)
