1 Human Environment Interaction & Dr. Seuss
The Lorax Human Environment Interaction & Dr. Seuss

2 The Lorax was Dr. Seuss most controversial children’ book
The Lorax was Dr. Seuss most controversial children’ book. It was published in 1971. In 1974 Dr. Seuss was forced to modify the book

3 So can we answer the questions
What is the main theme or idea that Dr. Seuss is trying to portray in the movie, The Lorax? In the story who is the Once-ler? Who could he represent in today’s world? In the story, who is the Lorax? Who could he represent in our society? What are the Trufulla Trees? What are the “thneeds?” Do we have those in our world today? Name a few examples.

4 At the same time Dr. Seuss wrote the book the Northern Spotted Owl was losing its habitat.

5 With the lose of the owls, came more rodents, which ate the roots of the trees and killed the trees!

6 Human Environment Interaction
In the story, is the Once-ler using, changing, or adapting to the environment? Or is it a combination of these? Name one negative way in which humans interact with the environment.

7 The Truax The Truax was written in 1995 by Terri Birkett and illustrated by Orrin Lundgren, both of whom manage to capture the meter and look of Dr. Seuss, without, alas, his verbal grace or artistic zaniness. It was published and sponsored by Hardwood Forest Foundation and the National Oak Flooring Manufacturers Association who then sent 400,000 copies to elementary schools all over the country
