Becoming justified in God’s sight comes only from having faith in Christ’s death on our behalf LIVING CHRIST’S LIFE

Memory Verse GALATIANS 2:20 “I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.”

LIVING CHRIST’S LIFE STEPS WE NEED TO MAKE Depend on Christ’s righteousness Make a complete connection with Christ

Depend on Christ’s righteousness STEP ONE

Christ’s Righteousness A. Paul uses the word justified four times in Galatians 2:16, 17. What does he mean by “justification”? “to be justified” means that the person also is counted as “righteous.” It is the positive declaration that a person is righteous. JUSTIFICATION is accepting His righteous record as our own.

Christ’s Righteousness B. Paul says in Galatians 2:16 that a person is not justified by “works of the law”(ESV). What does he mean by the wording “works of the law”? Paul’s point is that we may try very hard to follow and obey God’s law. But our obedience never will be good enough for God to justify us. His law requires perfect faithfulness in thought and action

Make a complete connection with Christ STEP TWO

Faith in God A. Read John 3:14–16. Paul makes it clear that faith is the foundation of the Christian life. Faith is the way for us to claim the promises we have in Christ. But what is faith exactly? Faith is knowledge about God and a mental acceptance of that knowledge. True faith also influences the way a person lives. Faith is as much what we do, how we live, and in whom we trust, as it is in what we believe.

Faith in God B. How well do you keep God’s law? Do you really sense that you keep it so well that you can be justified before God on the basis of your law keeping? (Read Romans 3:10–20.) The Jews would have argued that justification was by both faith and works. Faith just opens the way for us to take hold of Christ and His works for our good. We are not justified on the basis of our faith but on the basis of Christ’s faithfulness for us.
