2 How We See Color Colors are recognized through receptors at the back of our eyes. The eye sees the light; the brain interprets it, identifying the colors.

3 Shades, Hues, and Tints

4 Association With Color Red is a warm color that it is associated with fire. Blue is a cool color; the color of the sky, and water. Green is a fresh color associated with grass and lush foliage.

5 Colors Can Play Tricks The colored box in the each of the squares is the same color. Different surroundings can change what is seen.

6 Gender Differences Men Prefer blue to red Cooler colors Women Prefer red to blue Warmer colors

7 Children and the Web Children prefer brighter, more solid colors. Simple, up-to-date graphics--not too much text. Children appreciate repetition.
