8 Africa’s Language ◊Africa contains millions of languages. ◊There are 4 main language families that are divided in Africa. Afro-Asiatic, Nilo-Saharan, Niger-Congo, and Khoisan. ◊Each of the language family speaks all different kind of languages. ◊There are sooo many different languages in Africa that we have trouble counting them! ◊Africa contains millions of languages. ◊There are 4 main language families that are divided in Africa. 10 Timbuktu/Mali ◊Timbuktu is an ancient city in Mali. ◊“Tin” means “place” and “buktu” a name of an old Malian woman known for her honest. ◊Populated with Songhay and other places and it’s about 15km north of the Niger River. ◊Was first built up by the nomadic Tuareg. 12 Songhay ◊After the decline of Mali, the Geo Kingdom re-powered itself as the major kingdom in Sahel. Songhay kingdom in the region of Gao had been existing since the 11 th century, but came in under control of Mali in 13 th century.
