1 Question: What is the density of an orange
Question: What is the density of an orange? Is an orange more dense with the peel on or off? Background: What do we know about oranges? Tell me everything you know about oranges that may be important to consider with relation to density of oranges. How must we find the density? Hypothesis: Which is more dense? Will either of them float? Procedures: Write procedures below Experiment: Perform the experiment you wrote and record the data on the chart. Represent the Data: Take the data from the chart and graph the average density of peeled and unpeeled oranges Analysis and Conclusions: Answer the questions

2 The Orange’s Secret – Density Lab
DATA TABLE Name: Group: Orange Mass w/peel Volume w/peel Formula Data in formula Density 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 AVG. Unpeeled Orange Orange Mass no peel Volume no peel Formula Data in formula Density My group 2 3 4 5 6 7 AVG. Peeled Orange

3 Conclusion Questions Were you right with your prediction? Did any of them sink? Float?. Do you think all fruits with peels will have similar results to an orange? Give two reasons to support your answer. How do you think the density of a fruit like this effects the cost of the fruit? Explain. Graph the results of the density of the average peeled and the unpeeled oranges. Don’t forget to give your graph a title, label the X & Y axis’, make a key and label it! Your graph should be neat!
