Summary of PD15 Junji Haba KEK

Usual disclaimer As is done in most of the summary talks, Apology for not all the talks being picked up in the limited time slot of this summary.

Development of Photodetectors PPD (SiPM) Large area, RT, Cryogenic, VUV, PMT - –for larger area telescope – for largest area water Cherenkov – for cryogenic detector 0 , DM, LBNE – MCP PMT RICH, DIRC, TOP Hybrid – HAPD – VSiPMT Linear APD

MRS-APD (Metal Resistive Semiconductor APD) SPM (Silicon Photo Multiplier) MPGM APD (Multi Pixel Geiger-mode APD) AMPD (Avalanche Micro-pixel Photo Diode) SSPM (Solid State Photo Multiplier) GM-APD (Geiger Mode APD) SPAD (Singe Photon Avalanche Diode) MPPC (Multi Pixel Photon Counter) The candidates of name in SiPM faimily SiPM (Silicon Photo Multiplier) SiPMT (Silicon Photo Multiplier Tube) From Yamamoto Pixelated Photon Detector PD07 One of the most promising recent developments in the field is that of devices consisting of large arrays (O(103 )) of tiny APD’s packed over a small area (O(1 mm2 )) and operated in a limited Geiger mode [16]. Among different names used for this class of photodetectors, “PPD” (for “Pixelized Photon Detector”) is most widely accepted (formerly “SiPM”). (PDG Review section )

Device Structure The key to characterize the sensor. Not many discussion on it comparing with the evaluations… – QE vs wave length, higher geometrical factor.. – Lower cross talk – Timing property – Vbreak – Gain, capacitance. Next time at least one session should be devoted to this issue. PD07
