Ratio and Proportion Review Write your heading and number from 1-10 You are going to write a proportion for each problem, then solve for the missing number. So you will have two answers for each, the proportion and the answer.

1.There were 7 boats and 14 people registered for a boat race. If there were 21 boats, how many people would register? Write a proportion, then solve.

2.If the ratio of boys to girls in the sixth-grade chorus is 12 to 13, write a proportion to find out how many girls there would be if there were 60 boys in the chorus.

3. An animal shelter currently has 20 cats and 25 dogs. If there were 100 dogs, then how many cats would there be? Write a proportion, then solve.

4. The ratio of red rosebushes to yellow rosebushes in the school garden is about 3 to 7. If there were 63 yellow rosebushes, about how many red rosebushes would there be? Write a proportion, then solve.

5. Corinne’s group was responsible for painting windows on the set of a school play. The group painted 18 windows in 90 minutes. If they continued painting at this rate, how many windows would they paint in 3 hours? Write a proportion, then solve.

6. Jackie’s horse eats about 4 bales of hay every 10 days. About how many bales of hay does Jackie’s horse eat in 47 days? Write a proportion, then solve.

7. Martin’s heart beats 12 times per 31 seconds while Martin’s is resting. About how many times would Martin’s heart beat during 3 minutes of rest? Write a proportion, then solve.

8. Cameron participated in sports for 6 hours and drama for 3 hours during a period of 3 weeks. If Cameron continues participating in these activities at this rate, how many hours will he spend participating in them during 42 weeks?

9. At Mary’s school there is 1 teacher for every 20 students. There are 720 students at the school. Write a proportion that can be used to find x, the number of teachers there would be, then solve.

10. A company published 50 books last year, and 20 of them became best-sellers. Which best represents the percent of books the company published last year that did NOT become best- sellers? Write a proportion, then solve. HINT: Remember percent means over 100.
