Warm Up: How did natural resources and new means of transportation affect the growth of industry?

 In groups of 2-3, research one invention from the Industrial Revolution and create a presentation to present to the class on Monday  Groups will choose their top 3 inventions from list. Students will be randomly selected to choose their invention  Only one group per invention, so make sure your group has back up ideas just in case yours is already chosen  Due Monday January 26 th, 2015 ▪ On Monday, you will turn in your poster and brochure as well as present your commercial to the class ▪ You will present your commercial “live”, NOT record it

Congratulations! Your group has just been hired by an inventor to help him bring his new invention to market. Your job has two parts. First, you need to become an expert on the invention-find out how it works, what it’s for, and how it’s made. Second, you need to figure out how to help your client turn his idea into a profit making business. For that you must identify potential buyers and would-be investors. After significant research has been conducted, create a poster, a brochure, and a commercial to help sell your invention. Each group will present their findings in a 3 minute “infomercial” and present their poster, brochure, and commercial to the class.

 Brochure (20 points)  Poster (20 points)  Commercial (10 points)  Reference Page (10 points)

 Brochure (20 Points) - The six panel brochure needs to include the following:  Cover Page: Invention name, slogan, picture, basic information  Invention’s History: How the invention was created; how the Industrial Revolution lead to its creation  The Inventor: Information about the inventor.  The Product: Describe how the invention works, what it is used for  Life Changing Effects: Describe how the invention would change the lives of people. Describe its impact on the world. “Predict” how this product will change the future. (Remember this is a brochure that would appear in the time period right after your invention was created.)  Profit: Address the potential buyers and would-be investors of the invention. Give an example of a business plan or a way to make profit.

 Poster (20 Points) - The poster needs to have a slogan, pictures, important information about the invention, and who invented it. Remember, you are trying to sell this invention. Make your poster bright, fun, and attractive so that potential buyers and investors will buy into your product.  Commercial (10 Points) – Your group will be filming a 30 second ad just like a TV commercial. Your commercial will be presented “live” to the class when you give your presentation. You may use your poster or brochure in the commercial.  Reference Page (10 Points) – Your group must create a reference page consisting of the sources where the information used was obtained. This can include any documents, notes, videos, etc from this week. You may also use the internet to find information from reliable sources. Your reference page should include a brief (1-2 sentences) summary of information gained for the source and a justification of the sources validity.

 What are some lasting effects of the Industrial Revolution?
