(no flip-flop, backless, high platform or slip-on style shoes, boots or crocs will be allowed). 2. Shoes must be tied; tucking in loose laces may cause injury to your child or others. 3. 8 Independent Reading: Speeding to Read with Texas Motor Speedway Justin Elementary

“Time spent reading books was the best predictor of a child’s growth as a reader from the second to the fifth grade.” Anderson, Wilson, and Fielding (1988)

Speeding to Read Campaign To help students develop the habits of good readers To create excitement about reading every day To support students in becoming more proficient readers

How Can I Help? Encourage your child to read 25 chapter books during the school year. Help your child keep track of the books you read at home on his/her log. Volunteer to help your child’s grade level keep track of their progress.

CUB Binder & Planner The CUB is designed to assist children with their organizational skills as well as aide in the communication between school and home. There is a Planner to communicate important school events and behavior notes. We ask parents or guardians look at the Planner each night and discuss with their children events that occurred during the day as well as what homework needs to be completed. This is also an area where communication between you and your child’s teacher can occur. Each child is expected to update daily and keep the CUB with Planner throughout the school year.

Multiply 2 digit by 1 digit If I purchased 18 boxes of snacks, and each box had 6 snacks in it, how many snacks do I have in all? Equation: 18 x 6=? 10 8 18 6 10 x 6 = 60 8 x 6 = 48 Step 1: Break apart 18 Step 3: Add: 60 + 48 = 108 Step 2: Multiply 6 by each piece of 18 18x6 = 108

18 x 6 = (10 x 6) + (8 x 6) = 60 + 48 = 108 Another Strategy
