2 Introduction Today we are going to talk about the pomo. I hope you understand everything about this tribe because I assume you dont know anything about them. So enjoy, pay attention and learn!

3 History -In the Pomo women and men were basket makers.
-All in their lifestyle was connected to their baskets -Pomos live were bound the way baskets were bound together. -There is another commonality, which stems from interaction with Europeans. -It’s known that the Mexican and the Spanish people put a string of missions along the California coast. - The Europeans rounded the Indians, they kept the children separated from their families, they also separated women from men.

4 History -The Indians were forces labor for the church and for Mexican land grant ranchers. -About 2/3 of California Indians were killed. -The Pomo people who live in California were safely then the other Indians. -The Pomo were invaded during the 18th century by Russian for traders. -The Russian invaded the Pomo along the coast of Alaska and among Aleut, Yupik, Tlingit and other northwest coast tribes. -The Pomo were in the river, the Russian Killed lots of Indians along this river, and this river was now known as the Russian river.

5 Daily Life Men were almost always naked and women wore thick kilts with deer skin. And if it was cold they would put on rabbit robes. Their houses were shaped like an elliptical circle and consisted of three layers held by poles. And also some houses were made out of dried leaves. They eat acorn, wild berries,wild grapes, birds, nuts, fish and meat. The had 2 ceremony rituals which were called the Ghost Dance and the Far South.

6 Language and Games They speaked seven different languages but only three are still spoken including Hokan. The game they mostly played was Lacrosse the best game ever invented.

It is located in California, in San Francisco and by the Russian river. They were divided in 3 areas, the valley region, the lake region and the coast regions The population of the Pomo right now is approximately people.

according to the 5 themes of geography? Relative location: California San Francisco Russian River Valley region Lake region Coast region Absolute Location: 37.5° West, 123° North.

11 Question # 2 Who was a key individual to the history of this tribe and what influence did they have? Russians fur traders Spaniards forced them to join into spanish missionaries or indian reservations Mexican wanted to steal slaves.

12 Question # 3 How did the decisions of the Europeans to settle in the Americas effect this tribe? When the Europeans came, this tribe had a lot of problems -going to reservations -separating kids from their families -They loose a bunch of things and part of their traditions -They were i n a poberty status.

13 Question # 4 What were some immediate and long term effects of the native american and European interactions for this tribe? The spanish and the mexican in the early 18th century discovered the Pomo and maked them live in the mission dormitories rounded by militaries, the dormitors kept man separate from women. They also made the indians work hard for the crunch, more than the half of the indians were killed and 100 of the indians dead of sickness.

14 Question # 5 What are some things the Europeans did as they tried to settle in the Americas? When the Europeans came and they did a lot of bad things to the native americans -the population decreased, -the europeans also got all of their things including pottery and their nice belongings.

16 Conclusion Hope you learned everything we teached. We think these people are amazing in every aspect.And I think they have a very unique culture. There were 72 small tribes. Now, they are living in towns and cities. Two of the towns are Uktha and Santa Rosa. Now the Pomo only have 50 acres of land.
