SVD Mechanics 21th B2GM Florian Buchsteiner (HEPHY Vienna) 2015-06-22

Overview Changes in the Rev. 2.4 –Isolation for the cooling pipes –Adapted cooling pipes routing for isolation on end flange –FWD L4 end mount modification –Chamfer for the fiber and cooling pipe clamp –Narrower Keratherm between hybrid board and end mount/APV guard –New 3mm holes in the end rings BWD/FWD-L4/3 for NTC L5 ladder transport container L5 Origami source test Mechanics requirements for ladder assembly Florian Buchsteiner (HEPHY Vienna)2015-06-222

Isolation For The Cooling Pipes The DESY group will try to produce the isolators (decision @ the last VXD mechanics meeting @ DESY) for the VXD and this is the new design by Karsten G. Florian Buchsteiner (HEPHY Vienna)2015-06-223

Adapted Cooling Pipes Routing For Isolation On End Flange The connection between the cooling pipes (end ring and Origami) was adapted to the new isolators Florian Buchsteiner (HEPHY Vienna)2015-06-224

FWD L4 end mount modification @ the last DESY mechanics meeting we saw on the thermal mockup that the gap between FWD end mount and FWD L3 end ring is maybe not enough and so we made the decision that we modify the FWD L4 end mount (1 milling step) Florian Buchsteiner (HEPHY Vienna) Gap with old design Gap with new design 2015-06-225

Chamfer For The Fiber And Cooling Pipe Clamp We have a lot of tolerance at the H-shapes (gluing gaps) and so we need more clearance between the L6 clamps and outer shell (now more than 2mm gap) Florian Buchsteiner (HEPHY Vienna)2015-06-226

Keratherm Hybrid Board The Keratherm (red) at the APV (brown) on the hybrid board changed from 5.6mm width to 4mm because the APV guard squeezes the Keratherm Florian Buchsteiner (HEPHY Vienna)2015-06-227

New 3mm Holes In The End Rings BWD/FWD-L4/3 For NTC Lorenzo wants to have two NTCs on each end ring for redundancy For the end rings L6/L5 we can use the holes that were used during the production No conflict with the cooling channel inside (3mm deep) Florian Buchsteiner (HEPHY Vienna) Gluing NTC BWD L4/L3 end ring FWD L4/L3 end ring 2015-06-228

L5 Ladder Transport Container Florian Buchsteiner (HEPHY Vienna)2015-06-22 Material is 8mm thick aluminum except the BWD/FWD cover (3mm thick) Material costs: –Linear bushes ~10€ (1300¥) –Aluminum ~37€ (4810¥) –Screws ~1.5€ (195¥) BWD cover FWD cover Bottom cover Top cover Side wall 9

Holes For Air Exchange The container comes in a plastic bag and this plastic bag will filled with dry air The holes (BWD&FWD) are expected to ensure that dry air comes in the container Florian Buchsteiner (HEPHY Vienna)2015-06-22 Holes for air exchange (filling dry air) 10

Transport Box During EQA Removable BWD/FWD cover for EQA test Florian Buchsteiner (HEPHY Vienna)2015-06-22 Bottom cover 11

Transport Box Visual Inspection (Top) Removable top cover for visual inspection Florian Buchsteiner (HEPHY Vienna)2015-06-2212

Openings At The Bottom For Source Test Removable bottom cover for source test Florian Buchsteiner (HEPHY Vienna)2015-06-22 Openings for source test (green lines show the way of the source test) 13

Final Source Test With Full Ladder @ HEPHY we use our test box with an X/Z stage Florian Buchsteiner (HEPHY Vienna)2015-06-22 Particles beam (symbolic) 14

Transport Box Lift System & Positioning 1/2 Necessary for the Pisa ladder assembly (support under the end mounts) Florian Buchsteiner (HEPHY Vienna)2015-06-22 Linear bush (8mm) Linear bush (6mm) Precision pin (8mm) Precision pin (6mm) Ground plate for transport box 15

Removing the Set Screws Before Lifting M3 plastic set screws have to be removed before lifting the ladder Florian Buchsteiner (HEPHY Vienna)2015-06-22 M3 plastic set screw (secured with Loctite 222 – 6Nm) 16

Transport Box Lift System & Positioning 2/2 3mm gap between end mounts and support structure Allows pickup with fork lift (Filippo's ladder mounting system) Florian Buchsteiner (HEPHY Vienna)2015-06-2217

L5 Origami Source Test 18Florian Buchsteiner (HEPHY Vienna)2015-06-22 Source holder

Distance Between Ladders (Not really) collision analysis: looking at various spots where neighboring objects are close to each other Generally: 1mm minimum gap (with exceptions) Some cases look like a problem (in a 2D projection) but in fact aren’t (when looking at different angle in 3D model) 19Florian Buchsteiner (HEPHY Vienna)2015-06-22

Barrel Cross Section 20Florian Buchsteiner (HEPHY Vienna)2015-06-22 1 5 3 4 2 6 Symmetry: Same occurrences in left and right halves 7 8 Proximity issues (all between L4 and L5) DSSD distance of neighboring ladders

21Florian Buchsteiner (HEPHY Vienna)2015-06-22 1 3 4 0.33 mm 0.84 mm 1.32 mm 0.46 mm 2

22Florian Buchsteiner (HEPHY Vienna)2015-06-22 6 7 8 2.59 mm 2.74 mm 4.27 mm 5 1.88 mm

Barrel at L6 Knee 23Florian Buchsteiner (HEPHY Vienna)2015-06-22 1 2 Same occurrences on the other half (L4, L5, L6 are symmetric)

24Florian Buchsteiner (HEPHY Vienna)2015-06-22 1 2 0.93 mm Not an issue (looks like one only in 2D projection) 0.33 mm 0.46 mm

Forward Cross Section 25Florian Buchsteiner (HEPHY Vienna)2015-06-22 1 2 Same occurrences on the other half (L4, L5, L6 are symmetric)

26Florian Buchsteiner (HEPHY Vienna)2015-06-22 1 2 1.13 mm 0.33 mm 0.46 mm 0.97 mm

Backward Cross Section 27Florian Buchsteiner (HEPHY Vienna)2015-06-22 3 1 & 2 1 & 2 occur between all L4 ladders

28Florian Buchsteiner (HEPHY Vienna)2015-06-22 1 2 3 1.13 mm 0.63 mm 1.26 mm Not an issue (looks like one only in 2D projection) Better to make the clamp a bit narrower (to achieve at least 1mm gap)

BWD L4 Connectors That’s why we need to connect the BWD L4 cables before mounting the ladder (similar to the L3 case) 29Florian Buchsteiner (HEPHY Vienna)2015-06-22 0.95 mm

Comparison CAD – Reality Measured on L5.902 (class C) –2 PA1 & 2 PA2, each measured on both sides –Good match of average and CAD 30Florian Buchsteiner (HEPHY Vienna)2015-06-22 CAD = 3.73 mm Reality: Min = 3.25 mm Avg = 3.74 mm Max = 4.10 mm CAD = 2.25 mm Reality: Min = 2.06 mm Avg = 2.28 mm Max = 2.56 mm

Distance Between Ladders – Assessment Gap between adjacent DSSD sufficiently large to allow some sagging without collision –1.88mm (L3) to 4.27mm (L6) Generally 1mm minimum gap except for cases mostly between L4 and L5 (and L5 to L6) with PA1/2 loop (flexible) Average PA1/2 bend in CAD matches well with reality, but  0.5mm tolerance in height (~0.3 length) Tolerances may lead to PA1/2 touching adjacent rib –No Ohmic issue because of PA coverlay –Maybe noise issue? (Capacitive coupling) –Maybe add Kapton tape around bottom of L5 & L6 ribs? 31Florian Buchsteiner (HEPHY Vienna)2015-06-22
