2 2 Global Environment Facility (GEF) Established in October 1991, the GEF is today the largest funder of projects to improve the global environment. The Global Environment Facility (GEF) unites 179 member governments — in partnership with international institutions, nongovernmental organizations, and the private sector — to address global environmental issues. An independent financial organization, the GEF provides grants to developing countries and countries with economies in transition for projects related to biodiversity, climate change, international waters, land degradation, the ozone layer, and persistent organic pollutants. These projects benefit the global environment, linking local, national, and global environmental challenges and promoting sustainable livelihoods. Adriana Amorim & Daniela Gonçalves

3 3 Quercus Quercus - National Association for Conservation of Nature, is a Portuguese based ENGOs to 31 October 1985 in the city of Braga. It is a Portuguese association, independent, nonprofit, consisting of citizens who gathered around the same interest for Conservation of Nature and Natural Resources and Environmental Protection in general perspective of sustainable development. They challenge the current model of economic and corporate globalization, and promote solutions that will help to create environmentally sustainable and socially just societies. Worldwatch focuses on the 21st-century challenges of climate change, resource degradation, population growth, and poverty by developing and disseminating solid data and innovative strategies for achieving a sustainable society. 8 8 Green Cross The idea was created in January 1990 during an address to the Global Forum on Environment and Development for Survival held in Moscow. But Green Cross International (GCI) was formally launched in Kyoto, on the 18th April 1993. The mission of Green Cross International is to help ensure a just, sustainable and secure future for all by fostering a value shift and cultivating a new sense of global interdependence and shared responsibility in humanity's relationship with nature. 9 9 WWF WWF, “World Wildlife Fund” is one of the independent organizations on nature conservation more important. It has around 5 million supporters and is active on five continents in over 100 countries. Since its inception in 1961, has maintained high levels of success. Today, WWF funds about 2,000 projects and employs about 4000 people around the world. It has an annual income of 600 million CHF. WWF's mission is to stop the degradation of the planet and build a future where humans can live in harmony with nature: promoting the conservation of biodiversity; ensuring the sustainability of natural resources; promoting the reduction of pollution and waste. 10 PETA PETA is the acronym for People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, the largest animals’ rights organization in the world, with more than 2 million members and supporters. PETA’s aim is to “devour” four areas in which the largest numbers of animals suffer the most intensely for the longest periods of time: on factory farms, in laboratories, in the clothing trade and in the entertainment industry. 11 350.org 350.org is an international campaign dedicated to building a movement to unite the world around solutions to the climate crisis-the solutions that science and justice demand. 12 The United Nations Conference on Climate Change The United Nations Conference on Climate Change, held between 7 and 18 December in the Danish capital (Copenhagen), has as its objective a comprehensive international agreement that can reduce emissions in developed countries, limiting the growth of emissions in developing countries and finance actions to mitigate the effects of climate change and adaptation efforts made by poor countries. 12 Marcelo Barbeitos & Luísa (GEF)
