Culture and traditions seen through the glasses of a 12 year old

Meeting friends Most 12-year olds in Nesøya greet their friends by saying "hei". It is also quite usual to give a friend a hug when you meet. Some people say "halla", which is a little bit cooler than the usual "hei".

Music Rock and Pop are the most popular music types. Hip Hop and R&B are also quite popular. Popular groups: The Killers, Cold Play Classical music is not popular among 12 year olds.

Food Mexican taco is by far the most popular dish! Pizza is following as a good no 2 and lasagne as no 3. Traditional Norwegian food as fish or "lamb in cabbage" is not among the favourite dishes.

Breakfast A large majority eats bread for breakfast. Favorite spread: Jam Some have cereals instead. Very few eat porridge, fruit or egg and bacon during the week days.

Lunch Bread – again!!! Some eat salad. There's no food serving in school. All students have to bring their own lunch packs from home. Boring…!

Dinner Spaghetti is the most common dinner Fish is no 2 (Norway is after all a "fishing nation") Meat is no 3
