1 Another Method to Open WebSpace as a Web Folder Alternative Method for Creating Web Folder in WebSpace, Slide 1Copyright © 2004, Jim Schwab, University of Texas at Austin If the check box Open as Web Folder is not available (grayed out) when you try to open your web space as a web folder, you can use the following alternative steps to complete the task. This tutorial contains the rest of the slides from Adding Content to the Agency Web Site - Part 1, so you can complete that tutorial here.

2 Navigate to WebSpace Type the URL for WebSpace in the address text box: https://webspace.utexas.edu/. Remember to include the s in the address, i.e. https. 5 Your web space directory as a web folder Your web space directory is now opened as a folder. Note that the title of the folder will be your EID plus on webspace.utexas.edu. The URL for your web space will appear in the address box. You can now re-size the web space folder to a smaller size so that you can copy files from My Documents to it. 6 Copy the web site files to the web folder Second, I opened My Documents which contains the web site files in the Agency Web Site folder. Third, drag the Agency Web Site folder from My Documents and drop it on my WebSpace folder. First, the title of the folder, as well as the address bar, indicates that my WebSpace directory is open in the window. 8 The web site files in the web folder When all of the web site files have been copied to the web folder, the folder Agency Web Site appears in the web folder. The web folder has served its purpose so we can close it. We will log into the WebSpace account so that we can make the Agency Web Site accessible to the public. 9 Log in to the web space directory First, type the address or your web space directory: https://webspace.utexas.edu/YOUR- EID. My eid for jschwab, so that is what I type. Second, when the address is complete, click on the Go button. Third, I type ny EID and password in the Connect to webspace.utexas.edu dialog box. Fourth, click on the OK button to log into web space. 11 Change sharing permissions for Agency Web Site - 1 To make our web site publicly accessible, we change the sharing permissions for the folder Agency Web Site to public. 12 Change sharing permissions for Agency Web Site - 2 The sharing permissions for different user's groups are displayed. Click on the Change link to change the sharing permissions. 13 Change read permission for the public First, to make our web site accessible, we select Yes as the Read permission for the Public. Second, accept the default scope for the change Apply changed setting to sub- directories and files. Third, click on the Apply Now button to complete the change. 15 Test the link to the agency web site - 1 To make certain that the web site is publicly accessible, we type the URL for the home page in the address box of the browser, which is the address for WebSpace plus EID plus the Agency Web Site directory plus the name of the home page, index.htm. 16 Test the link to the agency web site - 2 The browser found our web site in WebSpace on the Internet. We can verify this by viewing the address of the web site. Note that the browser replaced the blank spaces with %20, the computer code for blanks.
