With your ruler measure 3cm from every corner of your box. Then with your pencil draw a light square (3cm in) We’ll repeat this process for just three sides of the box (& leave the fourth uncut) The drawn square will be as a guide for your next step

Here you use any cutter you like to cut the square drawn on the side of the box gives an accurate border of 3cm thickness do this process for the 2 long sides, opposite each other

This is what it should look like after you’ve cut the two opposite sides of the box

Now for the top of the box, you have to measure 6cm from the edge (smaller square than the rest of the box) After you drew light lines for guidance, use your cutter and cut around it to remove the top part It should look like this! It’s 6cm from edge this time Top of box after cut

There should be 2 sides left uncut, these sides have the flaps that hang out Choose a side and cut the top flap, then the bottom one (as it’s shown on the diagram) Leave the sides so we could cut a frame - 3cm from the edge like the rest of sides Cut top flap Cut bottom flap You should be left with these

Measure the side (where you currently just cut off the top and bottom flaps), 3cm from the edge Cut the inside Then tape the two flaps together to make a frame like the other sides 3cm

Through this step we will make a stand to hold the light bulb I just used one of the flaps I cut of earlier Use on of the flaps that you cut

Using your glue-gun, you’ll glue the light-bulb stand to the centre of the box Make sure the part where your electric wire sticks out is facing the side of the box with flaps The side with the flaps, make a cut for the wire to come out of the box (as shown) Make a cut here

With the baking sheets, measure each side of the box Mark it with a pencil Draw a straight line with a ruler And cut it *Repeat for the other 2 sides Baking paper Measure & mark Cut

You are free to design whatever you wish, but this is what I decided to design:

Use your design (from step 11) trace it on the baking sheets you cut out for each side Make sure the papers are quite stable and don’t move (for your drawing to be accurate)

Since we used pastel, it may smudge with touched Therefore to contain it and restrain it from fading, use hairspray. Just spray over your drawing and then leave it to dry outside

Cut the yellow card- paper to fit the inside- back of the lamp I chose yellow as it’s bright and will let the light bounce off, for it to illuminate clearer Just cut a small rectangle for the wire Gap for wire Stick on inside back of lamp

Measure another piece of yellow card-paper for the base of the lamp Make sure you cut out the centre for the bulb to stick-out Glue it with the gun to ensure its security

This is an extra step, I experimented with this ready sushi paper and stuck it on the inside edges of the lamp Just so when I light it up it makes a silhouette

The baking sheets have dried from the hairspray You can now stick them on the three sides that have frames

How to design the top of the lamp: Cut yellow rectangular stripes from the card- paper Glue them… (continuing next page)

Using this black paper Cut long strips and try and make ruffles as your are gluing them Caution: Careful, because getting burned is more likely as the paper is quite light and you could feel the heat through it. Maybe use a pen to push it down Using light black paper

I’ve done the ruffles on the edges as well to make an outline And your done! This is my final look for my lamp.

I glued yellow card-board first to cover the card- board box Then I designed a dragon with the ruffles, to go with my theme This is my final look for the back of the lamp
