Page - 3 75 th IETF – Stockholm, July 2009 A Framework for WSONs with Impairments Became CCAMP WG document on June 29, 2009. Major Updates (prior to WG adoption): –Section 3.1.1 -- Impairment Estimation Level of Detail –Section 3.1.2 -- Impairment Computation and Information Sharing Constraints
Page - 4 75 th IETF – Stockholm, July 2009 Impairment Estimation Level of Detail (section 3.1.1) Approximate Impairment Estimation is the focus of this document –Applicable to networks in which impairment effects that can be estimated via approximation techniques defined in [G.680],[G.sup39]. –Applicable to networks in which adding or removing an optical signal on the path will not render any of the existing signals in the network inoperable.
Page - 5 75 th IETF – Stockholm, July 2009 Impairment Info Sharing Constraints (Section 3.1.2) GMPLS control plane works for networks with unconstrained information sharing Unconstrained information sharing may not be assumed in IA-WSON because… –Vendors may also choose not to publish proprietary impairment details for links or a set of network elements –Black Links – multichannel links for DWDM are not standardized. How to overcome info sharing constraints? –Vendor Specific impairment validation (IV) entity can still interact with standard based entity while not revealing its proprietary information by providing impairment path validation.
Page - 6 75 th IETF – Stockholm, July 2009 Illustration The vendor in control of the "black links" (Vendor A) could furnish a PCE like entity that would furnish a list of viable paths/wavelengths between two requested nodes. Vendor A
