4 Page - 475th IETF - Stockholm, Sweden, July 2009 Requirement of GMPLS Signaling Extension for G.709 Amendment3 and G.sup43 GMPLS signaling extensions for G.709 (2003/03) has been described in RFC4328 including the Generalized Label Request and the Generalized Label (i.e., just for ODU1, ODU2 and ODU3).RFC4328 In terms of the evolutive OTN hierarchy, GMPLS signaling extensions for the new applications (i.e., ODU0, 1.25G ODU1, 1.25G ODU2, ODU2e, 1.25G ODU3, ODU3e1, ODU3e2, ODUflex and ODU4) are needed.

9 Page - 975th IETF - Stockholm, Sweden, July 2009 The extension defined for new application must be backward compatible with RFC4328 for ODU1, ODU2 and ODU3 in order to protect the asset of deployment based on G.709 (2003/03).RFC4328 This document uses the Signal Type charactering the ODU multiplex structure and NMC to infer the format of Generalized Label. 11 Page th IETF - Stockholm, Sweden, July 2009 Interworking Considerations One 2.5G bandwidth LSP between DXC1 and DXC6: In the case of one end-to-end session, the tributary slot, Signal Type and NMC can be changed along the path.

12 Page th IETF - Stockholm, Sweden, July 2009 Interworking Considerations The LSP also can be setuped with multiple segment session (i.e., ODU1 LSP1, ODU1 LSP2, ODU1 LSP3, ODU1 LSP4). Signal Type and NMC in each segment LSP don't need to be changed any more.
