3 WITT Purpose/Rationale: –WGISS Information Infrastructure Task Team was established in September –Support internal operations that promotes communications within and exterior to WGISS List Services WGISS WEB hosting Network – Implementation Strategy: –Working with advisory group establish and prioritize activities –Send service request to High level requirements –Working with content inputs from WGISS members Update and establish list service Update and configure WGISS web Provide consulting on network related needs

5 WGISS Hosting Services Switch has been made from Apollo hosting to EOGEO hosting. Provides both list and web services for WGISS. EOGEO services that WGISS is using – ing list service Uses Mailman (From zero ability to configure -> too many options) –Web hosting Current capability at 5 GBytes ( vs. 500 MBytes with previous hosting provider.)

6 ing Lists Set up as before for Subscriber Only –Only people who subscribe to the mailing list can post mail to the list. –Those who are not subscribe, may sent mail but mail will be sent to Moderator to approve. –Also new subscribers must be approved by Moderator. Will be implemented today. and Open lists –Anyone can send mail to list.

23 Short tutorial for Moderators The list moderator will get notified of new subscribers and must approve new subscription. Also, must approve posting by non-members Moderators will receive something like. Your authorization is required for a mailing list subscription request approval: For: List: At your convenience, visit: to process the request.

24 Short tutorial for moderators Moderators need and will be provided special password to access moderators pages. Administrator can also do these approvals. May get a no actions pending message.

29 Process for Page Updates Retrieve recent copy of web page Make changes and edits –Examine locally via browser Send updated pages to When webmaster notifies you that changes have been made, verify via web site Notify appropriate chair of changes Chair should examine and validate changes

30 DNS Support Top-level DNS (SOA) is done by NASA Marshall Space Flight Center (MSFC) for ceos.org: –ceos.orgceos.org HTTP requests go to host at JAXA –ceos.org mail exchanges (MX) go to host at Goddard Space Flight Center (currently) –wgiss.ceos.org web requests go to non-profit host (EOGEO.org) on a commercial provider (Interland.com)
