What can you do to make your child safe?

There isn’t a ‘one-size fits all’ approach. Your own values as a parent will affect what you do.

Whatever you decide, make sure that you’re the one in control !

YOU must set the agenda and rules! “You may not use Facebook, but you are allowed to use Club Penguin.”

YOU must set the agenda and rules! You may use Oovoo if you are happy for me to know your password and check your account whenever I choose.

YOU must set the agenda and rules! You may use Twitter using my account but must not access it from your phone.

Report any concerns to the police at: http://ceop.police.uk using the button on the school website.

Consider: Remember that sites with an age limit have it for a reason! You wouldn’t sit back and watch your child buy cigarettes! Set Parental Controls on BBC I-Player, 4OD and Google on your home computers. Set Parental Controls on Virgin/Sky TV systems. Monitor computer use carefully- remember how quickly sites like Google and Youtube take you to other places. Know which social-media sites your child uses and ensure they know the dangers.

Consider: Take control of the games your child plays. Games are certificated 18 for a reason! Ensure your home computer has an up to date firewall/anti-virus/Pop-up blocker. Discuss E-Safety regularly and encourage your child to be open about what they are doing online.
