© 2006 Open Grid Forum 2 OGF IPR Policies Apply I acknowledge that participation in this meeting is subject to the OGF Intellectual Property Policy. Intellectual Property Notices Note Well: All statements related to the activities of the OGF and addressed to the OGF are subject to all provisions of Appendix B of GFD-C.1, which grants to the OGF and its participants certain licenses and rights in such statements. Such statements include verbal statements in OGF meetings, as well as written and electronic communications made at any time or place, which are addressed to: the OGF plenary session, any OGF working group or portion thereof, the OGF Board of Directors, the GFSG, or any member thereof on behalf of the OGF, the ADCOM, or any member thereof on behalf of the ADCOM, any OGF mailing list, including any group list, or any other list functioning under OGF auspices, the OGF Editor or the document authoring and review process Statements made outside of a OGF meeting, mailing list or other function, that are clearly not intended to be input to an OGF activity, group or function, are not subject to these provisions. Excerpt from Appendix B of GFD-C.1: Where the OGF knows of rights, or claimed rights, the OGF secretariat shall attempt to obtain from the claimant of such rights, a written assurance that upon approval by the GFSG of the relevant OGF document(s), any party will be able to obtain the right to implement, use and distribute the technology or works when implementing, using or distributing technology based upon the specific specification(s) under openly specified, reasonable, non- discriminatory terms. The working group or research group proposing the use of the technology with respect to which the proprietary rights are claimed may assist the OGF secretariat in this effort. The results of this procedure shall not affect advancement of document, except that the GFSG may defer approval where a delay may facilitate the obtaining of such assurances. The results will, however, be recorded by the OGF Secretariat, and made available. The GFSG may also direct that a summary of the results be included in any GFD published containing the specification. OGF Intellectual Property Policies are adapted from the IETF Intellectual Property Policies that support the Internet Standards Process.

© 2006 Open Grid Forum 4 Agenda Introduction and scope of the session View and scope on computing resource modeling GLUE-WG OGSA BES-WG OGSA Resource Management DT (Ellen Stokes) JSDL WG RM WG (Paul Strong) Open discussion
© 2006 Open Grid Forum 5 Template for Group Presentation Introduction and goals of the group (suggested 1 slide) What is the scope of your computing model? (suggested 1 slide) If you defined your own model, what were the main motivations for that (suggested 1 slide) What aspects of computing resources do you need to model (suggested 1 slide) e.g.: state, characteristics of the execution environment, authorization aspects Current model of a computing resource how do you currently define a computing resource? what are the restrictions or simplifications? your view on computing service vs. computing resource Do you see overlaps in resource modeling activity within OGF? (suggested 1 slide) How do you see potential collaboration among WGs?

© 2006 Open Grid Forum 7 Introduction and Goals of the Group GLUE WG Started in January 2007 (OGF19) Building on 4 years modelling work carried out outside of OGF Goal: To provide a recommendation for an abstract information model of Grid resources and reference implementations Unification of existing information models (e.g., GLUE Schema 1.x, NorduGrid Schema) Timeline: OGF20: presentation of first draft for computing entities OGF21: complete draft for GLUE 2.0 and living document for use cases
© 2006 Open Grid Forum 8 Scope of Computing Resource Information Model Model all the information needed for: Supporting Grid-level Scheduling Inventory of available resources Monitoring including jobs
© 2006 Open Grid Forum 9 About Computing Resources We Care about: Characteristics of offered execution environments and application software What do you provide for my job (hardware resources, application environment)? Configured shares and related authorization policies Can I access it? How much? State What is used/free? We do not care about: How shares are actually implemented Exposing local configuration choices
© 2006 Open Grid Forum 10 Relevant Concepts We Have Identified Computing Element: grouping concept for computing services and the related computing resource Computing Resource: grouping concepts for a set of different types of execution environments; used to have aggregated information Execution Environme nt the actual computing resources Computing Service: software abstractions that offer to clients the capability to request, initiate, monitor, and manage computational activities Share: a utilization target defined by a set of policies, by status information and by an association to resources Grid Job Detailed information about status and description of a job which can be used by many services (e.g., computing service, accounting service, brokering service) More info: https://forge.gridforum.org/sf/wiki/do/viewPage/projects.glue-wg/wiki/InitialSketchOnEntities
© 2006 Open Grid Forum 11 Collaboration with other OGF WGs We would like to understand: How the GLUE model can be used in OGSA-BES compliant service relates to OGSA Resource Management DT work fit into the Reference Model can be used in JSDL language to express requirements on resources »The JSDL adoption of XQUERY expressions for resource requirements goes into the right direction
