5 St. Paul: The Body St. Paul speaks of the importance of the body in his epistles. Glorify God in your body.-1 Cor. 6:20 We are to treat our bodies with respect, as a Temple of the Holy Spirit. The body, however, is not for immorality, but for the Lord, and the Lord is for the body. -1 Cor. 6:13 St. Paul speaks of the importance of the body in his epistles. 6 St. Paul: Teaching via Athletics - Be eager to present yourself as acceptable to God, a workman who causes no disgrace, imparting the word of truth without deviation 2. Tim. 2:15 - Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, as in all wisdom you teach and admonish one another, singing psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs with gratitude in your hearts to God Col. 3:16 We must train hard with the Spiritual life! - Be eager to present yourself as acceptable to God, a workman who causes no disgrace, imparting the word of truth without deviation 2. 7 St. Paul: Teaching via Athletics Train yourself for devotion, for, while physical training is of limited value, devotion is valuable in every respect, since it holds a promise of life both for the present and for the future. 1 Tim. 4:7-8 Compete well for the faith. Lay hold of eternal life, to which you were called when you made the noble confession in the presence of many witnesses. 1 Tim. 6:12 Train yourself for devotion, for, while physical training is of limited value, devotion is valuable in every respect, since it holds a promise of life both for the present and for the future. 1 Tim. 4:7-8 Compete well for the faith. 8 St. Paul: Teaching via Athletics Do you not know that the runners in the stadium all run in the race, but only one wins the prize? Run so as to win. Every athlete exercises discipline in every way. They do it to win a perishable crown, but we an imperishable one. Thus I do not run aimlessly; I don not fight as if I were shadowboxing. No, I drive my body and train it, for fear that, after having preached to others, I myself should not be disqualified.-I Cor. 9:24-27

9 Which crown?

10 St. Paul: Teaching via Athletics Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us rid ourselves of every burden and sin that clings to us and persevere in running the race that lies before us while keeping our eyes fixed on Jesus, the leader and perfecter of faith. For the sake of the joy that lay before him he endured the cross, despising its shame, and has taken his seat at the right of the throne of God.- Heb. 12:1-2

11 St. Paul: Teaching via Athletics I have competed well; I have finished the race; I have kept the faith.-2 Tim. 4:7
