Goals Union catalogue of the universities and research libraries in Bulgaria – done and being enlarged Unification of the level of automation of the academic libraries – done for the associate members Increasing the level of quality – ongoing The NALIS Project

Stages Online union catalogue of the founding libraries (completed Sept 2010) Enlarging the catalogue with retroconverted records from the founding libraries (ongoing) Enlarging of the catalogue with bib records of the founding libraries (ongoing) The NALIS Project

Achievements 1 mil records in the NALIS Union Catalogue (1/5 of the national holdings in terms of library items): - user friendly and easy to operate with - bilingual interface (BG, ENG) - giving free and quick access to bib information (the patron may choose where to read) and the resources themselves - proposing the opportunity to refine search results (by topic, creator or date) retroconverted records The NALIS Project

Achievements 2 digital collections: - ca. 750 titles of 19th-century Bulgarian books and periodicals (more than 1000 digital objects); - ca 400 letters (Salvini Archive) The digital collections can be easily integrated to WDL MARC 21 Bibliographic translated in 2011 and uploaded online 3 library dictionaries published on the NALIS website 11 associate members The NALIS Project

NALISF Associate Members The NALIS Project

HOW TO INTERPRET THE FIGURES -everything is done from scratch: the largest union catalogue prior NALIS UC had bib records and was not easily accessible - by a handful of people (the NALIS team was 3 people in and 4 people in 2011) -Bulgaria is a small country -the founding libraries increased their electronic bib records (SU with over , CL-BAS – ca )

Advantages -No new buildings -Minimal expenses after the initial investment in hardware and software -No new staff -More patrons -Quicker and easier access to information resources -Popularisation of a library

Thank you!
