I can divide multi-digit whole numbers by whole number divisors with and without remainders using various strategies.

2
**Think back to our objective last week- Multi-digit multiplication**

Give me a thumbs up when you can tell me what we do with sets of numbers in multiplication. We combine sets!

3
**This week we will focus on the opposite operation of multiplication...**

Division If division is the opposite of combining sets of numbers, what statement can you make about division? On your slates: Statement about division Division: Separating a number into smaller EQUAL groups.

4
**Math terms Take out your math journals!**

Dividend: The number being divided Divisor: The number divided into another number Quotient: The result or answer Remainder: Amount left over

5
**Mnemonic Device To help remember steps of division! Standard algorithm**

Dad : Divide Mom : Multiply Sister : Subtract Brother : Bring Down Rover : Repeat or Remainder

6
**Let’s try a few together!**

A few more... 548 divided by 6 875 / 3

Jobs Partner A : Write down problem on your white board. Get ready to follow Partner B’s steps. Partner B : Use the Dad, Mom, Sister, Brother, Rover device, and give your partner step by step directions. When you are done, don’t erase your white board. It’s time to switch roles. Once both partners have worked out problems, check to see if you both got the same answer. If not, rework your problem! Once correct, write your answer on your joint paper. Partner Time!

**Questions: What is division?**

What are the steps we can take to solve a standard algorithm?

**Closure Think about what we learned today.**

Tell the people at your table what our objective was. IP
