3 Comenius 2009/2010 As in any other place in the world, we have the 1st day of the year as an holiday. The term sheep’s jump is very common during the month of January, symbolizing the beggining of a new year and the end of winter.

4 Comenius 2009/2010 On January 6th, we usually sing the Janeiras (literally, the January ones) at each door (so as to get something in exchange) to celebrate the arrival of the Three Magi in Jerusalem.

6 On May 1st, a nacional holiday, we celebrate the Worker’s Day. On the first Sunday of the month, it is Mother’s Day.
