5 First Step - RECRUIT Crawl/ Walk/ Run The Seven Sins of Recruiting Expect Announcements to Get them Go at it Alone Recruit Life time people – not short term Assume “No” means “Never” Fall into the “BIC” trap Be People driven, not Project driven Give the position the wrong title

6 First Step - RECRUIT General Recruitment – on-going efforts (ex New Parishioner Packets, surveys to parents, invitations to parish organizations) Specific Recruitment – advertise your need for volunteers (ex Ads in bulletin, newsletter notices, etc) Targeted Recruitment – Personal invitations to individuals to help with specific programs. 9 Third Step - Appoint Available From the NFCYM ($7.00) Develop a template for education and formation for youth ministry training programs and to write role descriptions, policies, or other procedures for parish youth ministries in a diocese Determine the ministry staffing needs in the parish to recruit, develop and evaluate staff Plan one’s professional development Manage volunteers, which includes identifying needs, recruiting, orienting, training, and assessment.

10 Fourth Step – Train Them There are many options for training, including: Diocesan Certification Programs Diocesan/regional training programs Parish-level youth ministry training On-line training and video training Books and articles On-the-job training for specific jobs Group evaluation and feedback

11 Fourth Step – Train Them Hold an Orientation Might be Specific to role Periodic updates (email, FB, texts, meetings) Retreats and faith formation -faith sharing and prayer -community building and socializing -sharing stories about our experiences with youth
