1 Our location is in Hattiesburg, MS Redesign Course: Nutrition Required course for 8 health profession majors 9 sections Fall and Spring; 2 sections Summer Online sections: 2-5 In person sections: 3-4 Stable Enrollment: 300-400 Fall/Spring; 80/Summer; 800 students annually

2 Redesign Objectives: 1. Reduce adjunct faculty usage 2. Improve course consistency 3. Improve student success especially application of nutrition concepts 4. Faculty teach to academic strengths in teams 5. Blend the best aspects of in person and online course components into one structure

3 Learning assessment tools Slides with integrated audio lectures Repeated weekly quizzing Custom electronic textbook – Course 360 Self-assessment and personalized learning plans Nutrient analysis software Interactive in class sessions with instructor and graduate teaching assistant Variation on Buffet Model Using a Menu of Learning Tools

4 In person section using computer lab, weekly in class assignments, online course supplement Online section using redesigned modules and content. Customized text and learning plans Repeated quizzes Recorded lectures and printable slides with lecture transcripts. 3 instructional blocks; 6 chapters each, 3 tenure tract faculty Spring 2009 – 2 pilot classes
