2 Who Was Frederick McKinley Jones?
Frederick M. Jones was born on May 17, 1893 in Covington, Kentucky. When he was 9, his mother died, so he had to drop out of school and was raised by a priest until he was 16. During World War I, he was a sergeant and electrical engineer. He allowed his camp to have electricity. After he was discharged, Joseph A. Numero, head of Ultraphone Sound Systems, hired Jones as an electrical engineer. There, he made the first movie projector that could play sound. In 1939, he made an automatic ticket dispenser, which was patented and sold to RCA. After he made the refridgeration system, Numero and Jones created a company called Thermo King Corporation. He died of lung cancer on February 21, For his work, he was awarded the National Award of Technology.

3 The Refridgeration System
One day, Jones was having a conversation with an upset truck driver. He said that his delivery of chickens had spoiled because the ice keeping it cool melted. So, Jones created the first refridgeration system for trucks and railroad cars. It allowed food to be delivered in long distances, during anytime in the year. Joseph A. Numero sold Ultraphone Sound Systems and worked with Jones to create a company called the U.S. Thermo Control Company, which would be later renamed as the Thermo King Corporation.

4 Inventions, Inventions…
During Jones’s life, he made many other inventions. Some of them are: A ticket dispensing machine A starter generator A control device for the internal combustion engine An air conditioning unit An automatic start/stop gasoline engine A thermostat and temperature control system

5 How it Contributed to the Community
Frederick Jones’s refridgeration system allowed food to be transported over long distances during anytime of the year. Without it, our food would always be spoiled and the food would also be unhealthy. That also means that we wouldn’t have our favorite foods like cheeseburgers and pizza.
