2 Where can we find more sources of information? Photographs, maps and drawings found in museums, archives and libraries are great sources of information about the past.

3 Why interview? Interviews are a great way to find out unique first-hand information that may not be in books or can not be seen in photographs or maps. There are plenty of interviews happening around us. The answers given are greatly affected by the types of questions that are asked, and this determines the kind of useful information that can be gathered. A resident of the Mapledene Estate being interviewed by a local student. Question 1: Can you think of reasons why interviews are a good source of information? Question 2: Can you think of a recent interview you have seen? Was it successful? Give reasons for you answer.

4 What makes a good interview? A good interview should: Put the guest at ease. The interviewer should be comfortable. Ask relevant and interesting questions. Find out something new from the guest. Give the guest time to respond. Rephrase or repeat questions if the guest didn’t hear or understand. Question 3: Can you think of anything else to add to the list?

5 Why interview people? The men and women who witnessed historical events and changes, such as World War II, have much to share with younger people. By talking to them we can ask questions and find out what life was like in the past and how things have changed. Question 4: What are the differences between primary and secondary sources of information? Question 5: Would an interview of a person who witnessed WWII, and the changes that occurred since, be considered a primary or secondary source?
