7 Skills Development & Transfer StrategyImpact or Targets School To Work Developing and implementing innovative skills development interventions that promote self employment & formal employment in scarce skills areas  3,260 young people access the programmes and earned a livelihood;  60 people from Service Providers trained in UYF capacity building interventions. National Youth Service Developing and implementing innovative skills development interventions that promote self employment & formal employment where there is a service imperative  10,000 young people access the programmes and earned a livelihood  60 people from Service Providers trained in UYF capacity building interventions Supporting the operations of the National Youth Service Unit  30 SPO have received UYF training

9 Business Development Support Develop and enhance a culture of entrepreneurship and creation of sustainable youth owned enterprises, through two programmes – –Entrepreneurship Education (programmes that target in-school and out-of-school youth) and –Business Development Voucher Programme  (BDVSP). a world-first electronic voucher programme of its kind, providing business support services to young entrepreneurs through UYF accredited services providers (e.g. Business Plans, Productivity Improvement, etc). Two new programmes introduced to the Youth Development Sector, –Business Opportunities Services Support (“BOSS”) programme and –Youth Entrepreneurship 2010 Campaign.

10 Business Development Support StrategyImpact or Targets Entrepreneurship Education provides opportunities for youth to master competencies related to core-entrepreneurial knowledge, skills, attitudes and practice thereby increasing entrepreneurial culture and contributing to economic development and sustainable communities.  500 delegates at Youth Conference;  1,000 business referrals + 20 UYF entrepreneurs profiled and supported;  7,200 participate in entrepreneurship programmes  360 qualified trainers;  90 schools in 6 Provinces;  360 learners at Biz camp;  123 teachers / facilitators trained  1,100 businesses started  1,650 jobs created  1 100 successful referrals made to relevant BDS programme;  5 NVCL Colleges + 500 learners; “ Business Development Support ” : Provision of business development services to potential and existing youth entrepreneurs for business creation, improvement and growth through the voucher system; facilitation of business opportunities and business mentorship  13,325 young entrepreneurs assisted: o 11,800 voucher recipients o 200 BOSS clients o 1,235Finance Mentorship clients  1 235 jobs created through mentorship 230 businesses started;  R50m business opportunities accessed;

11 Highlights: BDS Development of Business Opportunities Support Service –Linking youth owned businesses with opportunities & networking amongst themselves Entrepreneurship Campaign 2010 –Advocacy Entrepreneurship Education & Skills Programmes Access to finance, business support & procurement opportunities Policy, legislation, regulations pro youth entrepreneurship –Objective: Increase Total Entrepreneurship Activity to be no. 1 by 2010 Entrepreneurship Education programmes for in-school & out-of- school youth Appointment by Dept. of Labour to set up the National Coordinating Agency for the New Venture Creation Learnership Voucher programme now available in all provinces Partnerships –Dept. of Labour –Mpumalanga Economic Empowerment Corporation

12 Business Development Support (Cont.) StrategyImpact or Targets Youth Entrepreneurship 2010 Campaign : A national collaborative effort of youth business organisations and other stakeholders to create awareness and increase the level of total entrepreneurship activity among South African youth by 2010.  36 entrepreneurial awareness workshops conducted;  1 800 delegates participating in awareness workshops;  5 000 young people accessing identified business opportunities.

13 Enterprise Finance Facilitate access to finance for young entrepreneurs in SMME market. Executed directly to young, qualifying entrepreneurs through UYF’s self-managed General Fund, or through intermediary funds SME Financing Private Public Partnerships with –Business Partners (Franchise Fund) –First National Bank (Progress Fund) Micro-finance funds with The Nations Trust, NICRO Enterprise Finance, MARANG and Small Enterprise Foundation ; and Co-operative funds with Marang Financial Services, SACCOL (Savings & Credit Co-ops), Land Bank and NCASA.

14 Enterprise Finance StrategyImpact or Targets To deliver finance to SME’s in an integrated manner  100 SME’s funded;  1,300 jobs created;  33% represented by women;  200 youth entrepreneurs  Coverage: GP 43%; WC 23%; KZN 23%; Others 11% Streamline and institutionalise Micro Finance Enterprises with a best practice model  2 SP’s using Micro Finance Model;  3 SP’s reaching 2000 micro entrepreneurs;  3,500 jobs created; To develop efficient and effective youth co-operatives capable of enhancing the mainstreaming of youth into the overall economy  75 Youth accessing financing through SACCOS;  12 Youth Savings and Credit Co-ops established;  3 Partnership agreements with Dev. Funding Institutions;  100 youth co-ops receiving support;  649 beneficiaries trained;  10 youth agricultural co-ops;

15 Highlights: Enterprise Finance Leveraging of funds –Progress Fund now the basis of FNB Enterprise Solutions and increased commitment from R20m to R240m –Mpumalanga Investment Initiative (R10m) –Discussions in progress with other funders Co-operatives initiatives Training of Loan Application Support Officers (to improve access)
