3  Strong GPA & MCAT  What to shoot for: › A in all core science classes › GPA above 3.5 (out of 4.0) › MCAT above 30 (out of 45)

4  Volunteering  Leadership  Clinical Experience  Research  Athletics  Life experience  Cool hobbies

5  Identify mentors early on  Ask people that know you well › Doesn’t have to be the most accomplished doctor, CEO, etc.  Give at least 1 month of notice  Ideas › Professor (or TA), research mentor, dean, boss, faculty advisor, volunteer leader, etc. › People related to core science classes and medical work should be included

6  Don’t be a jerk

7  QUALITY OVER QUANTITY!  Identify mentors  Step outside your comfort zone  Travel  Take a gap year What if being a doctor was a minimum wage job?

8  Sign up with your college’s health careers committee › They’ll walk you through the process and provide a committee letter, which you’ll need  Get letters of recommendation › At least 3  Take MCAT › Anytime the year before you want to matriculate  Fill out AMCAS application › Submit between June and October the year before you want to matriculate › One application, all schools  Fill out secondary applications
