2 Crown copyright 2008 Objectives To outline the purpose of the day and place it in the context of the National Strategies’ plan To remind subject leaders of the place of APP in the DCSF’s AfL strategy To discuss the importance of APP within new assessment arrangements for KS3 Slide 1.1

4 © Crown copyright 2008 Slide 4 £150 million over three years to support schools in developing their use of assessment for learning 2008 – funding for all schools based on £1000 per school plus a sum for each pupil 2009 to 2010 – targeted funding for those schools that need extra help and those who can share good practice Funding Slide 1.3

5 Crown copyright 2008 The objectives of the AfL Strategy include: 2008 – 2009 Every school introduced to APP in English and mathematics, and offered training 2009 – 2010 To offer direct support to schools that have not managed to establish APP Slide 1.4

14 Crown copyright 2008 Accurate marking by the teacher provides pupils with feedback; important work has been marked by pupils or teacher. Teachers’ marking identifies errors and underlying misconceptions and helps pupils to overcome difficulties, for example by setting clear targets to which pupils respond and teachers check against. 22 Crown copyright 2008 An example A group of pupils: Decided that a good ‘target’ probability for getting a six was 25% Tested their ‘dodgy dice’ by rolling it 12 times – and got 3 sixes Concluded that the target probability was achieved Slide 2.11

23 Crown copyright 2008 Progression maps: probability step 6 Estimate probabilities from experimental data; understand that: if an experiment is repeated, there will be different outcomes; increasing the number of times an experiment is repeated generally leads to better estimates of probability.
