Central Computing –UNIX Solaris – stable at v2.6, investigating v8 HP-UX - 10.20, esp. CAD and MIS Linux – RH 6.2 – SciComp, desktop –Windows no physics computing; desktop only Currently NT 4.0; Single Master Domain W2000 Pro; beginning to investigate Server –Network Appliance – concurrent NFS & CIFS, user/group quotas, online backups New F760, existing F760, F630 /home, /group, /site - same for UNIX, Windows users /apps - platform-specific /mail, /db

Experimental Physics Computing File Servers –5TB total /work- Metastor– RAID 5 - NFS –6 TB New Linux /cache servers – RAID 0 Some problems with stability –1TB /stage – Metastor – RAID 5 additional 1TB nStor fibre-channel currently has problems connecting through Ancor switch to our SUN. (?) Batch Farming –125 RH Linux dual-processors – 6000+ SPECint95 –LSF licensing/pricing issue resolved Mass Storage –CA OSM migration to JASmine –STK Powderhorn silo - /mss 8 Redwoods, 10 9840s, 9940s next?

Scientific Computing systems and mass storage Accelerator controls Central Unix services Central login systems – Sun: jlabs1,2 HP : jlabh1 Mail servers Print services Web servers Netnews Central backup services Central NT services JLAB domain controllers NT print services Calendar server Remote Access service Gigabit and 100 Mbit Ethernet Routing and switching fabric Workgroup clusters e.g. CAD Workgroup clusters e.g. CAD, DAQ etc Firewall Central File Servers Serving NFS, CIFS to Unix, Windows and Mac Home directories Group areas Applications area Site-wide utilities MIS Computing Databases – Ingres, Oracle Financial, HR systems and applications Training, library, etc DMZ Services Web server DNS Mail server CUE – Common User Environment

Projects –UNIX/NT Integration Phase 1 - common password – complete –see “jpasswd” talk by Marty Wise Phase 2 - User Accounts –Creation, deletion, disabling –Group/Netgroup synchronization –Windows 2000 Pro production; begin to eval Server 95/98 support ended June 30 (still domain authentication with patch) SMS – widespread use NTLM2 authentication issues - see Tuesday’s talk by Myung Bang

Projects (cont) –X-terminal replacement Thin-clients - SUN Netras, IBM Linux PCs? Replace BudTool for backups – we require NDMP –Printing environment improvements/rework –Network Production DHCP Production wireless – Cabletron OC3 Esnet upgrade –Security Continue to remove/isolate clear-text authentication Enclaves Manage information from security monitoring and alerts - there’s LOTS! –see talk by Bob Lukens

Projects (cont) –Scientific Computing –see talks by Andy Kowalski and Bryan Hess Storage solutions - SANs, Linux RAID, IDE JASmine Offsite data export Grid/Mass storage integration
