5 ABOUT VILNIUS – the capital of Lithuania Vilnius is the biggest Lithuanian city. There is the oldest university in Europe. There are about 40 old churches in Vilnius. The down town of Vilnius is the most beautiful down town in Europe.

9 GEDIMINAS’ CASTLE Gediminas’ castle stands on the Gediminas’ mountain. Near the mountain there ara two rivers Neris and Vilnia. There are lots of trees around the castle.

10 The Legend of Gediminas’ Castle One night the duke Gediminas dreamed an iron wolf. The wolf was on a mountain. It roared like a hundred wolfs. When Gediminas woke up, he went to the wizard - Lizdeika. Gediminas told about his dream. When Lizdeika heard the dream, he said: ‘The big and famous city will be built on the mountain where the wolf stood.’ Gediminas built the castle and the city, which are big and famous. This city is Vilnius.

11 THE CASTLE OF TRAKAI THE CASTLE OF TRAKAI The castle is in the island of Galv ė ’s lake. You can reach it on foot or by boat.

12 Some Facts about Trakai Castle The duke Vytautas died in the castle on 27 th October 1430. Later, the castle was used like a jail. The famous Lithuania’s poet Maironis created a poem about Trakai Castle.

13 VILNIUS UNIVERSITY VILNIUS UNIVERSITY Vilnius University is the oldest in Europe. It occupies almost all Vilnius down town.

14 About Vilnius University Vilnius University was founded in 1579. You can study here: economics, history, philosophy and other subjects Vilnius University’s name was changed 11 times.

20 Mažeikiai – our native town Mažeikiai is a small town in the northwest of Lithuania. The river Venta flows through Mažeikiai. Mažeikiai was founded in 1290. The population of Mažeikiai is 36 420.
