2. OriginOrigin The origin of football / soccer can be found in every corner of geography and history. The Chinese, Japanese, Italian, Ancient Greek, Persian, Viking, and many more played a ball game long before our era. The Chinese played "football" games date as far back as 3000 years ago. The Ancient Greeks and the Roman used football games to sharpen warriors for battle. In south and Central America a game called "Tlatchi" once flourished. But it was in England that soccer / football really begin to take shape. It all started in 1863 in England, when two football association (association football and rugby football) split off on their different course. Therefore, the first Football Association was founded in England.

Rules and Regulations The Football Organization was created when 11 London clubs and school each sent their representatives to establish the fundamental rules on which Football is now based on.This also marked the birth of the Football Association(FA). They did this to clarify on the long disputed rules of how Football is played. They brought together 11 representatives so that the new rules be acceptable to everyone.The eternal dispute concerning shin-kicking, tripping and carrying the ball was discussed thoroughly at this and consecutive meetings until eventually on 8 December the die-hard exponents of the Rugby style took their final leave. They were in the minority anyway. They wanted no part in a game that forbade tripping, shin-kicking and carrying the ball. A stage had been reached where the ideals were no longer compatible and therefore pinned a date in history as the Rugby style of football is finally considered as Rugby, and is a separate sport from football. Football As A National Sport Football is a national sport in over 60 nations, an approximate of:  All of South America  Western Europe (all countries ranging form Norway down to Greece).  South East Asia (Countries ranging from Indonesia to the Thailand and Cambodia are not particularly strong in football, but it is watched and followed religiously in this part of the world).  Middle East (countries like the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Iran, Iraq all play soccer as their national sport)  African Nations: Almost all African nations excluding South Africa have football as their national game.  Countries where soccer is not the national game but often mistaken to be; o Mexico, o Japan o Cuba o India o Pakistan o Sri Lanka o South Africa o Canada <<<< Map showing participant countries in the upcoming Euro 2012

5. Why is Football So Popular? 1) Football is one of the most simplistic sports worldwide. All you need to play is a round object preferably a ball, and a minimum of 2 players. We can use literally anything for a goal, unlike other sports that requires specific materials such as a hoop to throw a ball through. 2) Football brings people together, no matter age, size or level of intellect. Everyone can play football. For instance, countries unite as one during the world cup and strive for the ultimate achievement in football- World Champions. football is not an individual sport but a team sport, friendship and strong relationships have been established through playing football. 3) Everyone is patriotic and we all cheer for our home town/country no matter what. The arrival of clubs in the international scene has attracted abundant local supporters. In europe, it is more of an out and outward style of football as their game is accelerated and the players are creative in creating open spaces at either end of the pitch. Whereas in South America, it is all about ball handling and possession is key. Their players are very crafty and they are excessive dribblers that resembles player of Leonel Messi’s caliber. And then we have the continental way of playing football, is all about passing and total football where teamwork is believed to be necessary to win.
