16 General Procedures ·  Make sure all backpacks are out of the aisles before you get a microscope! Always carry the microscope with one hand on the Arm and one hand on the Base. ·  Wear your glasses, the microscope will focus to your eyesight! ·  Keep both eyes open, your brain will learn to ignore the other eye.

21 Care of microscopes A. You must always keep the microscope clean and dry. B. When a slide is focused under the high power objective, it should not be pulled or removed. C. The microscope lenses must be cleaned by lens paper after each time using the microscope. Xylene can be used as a solvent for erasing the dusts of the lenses.

22 Care of microscopes D. When you are going to view specimens first view under the low power objective lens, then bring the specimen into the focus by coarse adjustment screw. After that if you want to get a more magnified view then rotate the nose piece to the high power objective lens and then bring the specimen into focus by using the fine adjustment screw. E. Avoid lowering the objective lens into the slide, especially if there is not a coverslip. Even when using a coverslip, be careful and mindful of you raising the slide to far up and crushing the coverslip and damaging both the slide and microscope.

23 Care of microscopes F. Never remove the slide from the stage when it is focused under the high power objective. G. When the use is over, clean all lenses with lens paper and carefully (with two hands) replace microscope on shelf.

24 Care of microscopes Always carry microscope with two hands.
Store microscope with scan strength (lowest power) objective in place.
