2 SUICIDES AND SCHOOL o Gay and lesbian teens are two to three times more likely to commit teen suicide compared to other youths. o About 30% of all completed suicides have been related to sexual identity crisis. o Students who are LGBT are five times as more likely to miss school because they feel unsafe after being bullied for their sexual orientation. o About 28% out of those groups feel forced to drop out of school because of altogether.

4 LGBT BULLYING o 90% of LGBT students have been harassed or assaulted. o LGBT students are three times as likely as non-LGBT students to say they do not feel safe at school. (22% versus 7%) o About 1/3 of LGB students skipped a day of school in the past month because of feeling unsafe. o LGBT youth in rural communities and those with lower adult education attainment face particularly hostile school climates. o Teens that identify as LBG are bullied two to three times more than heterosexuals.

6 BRITISH STATISTICS o 65% of young LGBT students experience homophobic bullying in Britain's schools. o 97% of gay pupils here derogatory phrases.at o Half of young lesbian and gay people feel that it is hard for people like them to be accepted at school. o 98% of gay pupils here “that’s so gay” or “you’re so gay” at school. o Over a third of young LGBT pupils do not like going to school. o Pupils who have experienced homophobic bullying are 44% more likely to feel this (compared to those who have not been bullied)

8 ADULTS AND THEIR SEXUAL ORIENTATION o 6.8% of American adults self-identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, or transgender. o 83% of gay men and lesbians consider themselves to be “out” to others. o 646,464 same-sex couple households lived in the U.S. in 2010.

9 COMPARING ADULTS AND THEIR SEXUAL ORIENTATION: CALIFORNIA o JOBS: o 75% of people in same-sex couples are employed, compared to 65% of those different-sex married couples. o 72% of gay men, lesbians and bisexuals are employed, compared to 68% of heterosexuals. o EDUCATION: o 47% of people in same-sex couples have a college degree, compared to 33% of those in different-sex married couples. o 46% of gay men, lesbians and bisexuals have a college degree, compared to 32% of heterosexuals.

10 COMPARING ADULTS AND THEIR SEXUAL ORIENTATION: CALIFORNIA (CONTINUED) o HOUSEHOLDS: o 96% of same-sex couples live in urban areas, compared to 94% of different-sex couples. o 81% of gay men, lesbians and bisexuals live in urban areas compared to 69% of heterosexuals. o 646,464 same-sex couple households lived in the U.S. in 2010. o.6% of American households are same-sex households. o In 10 years (2000-2010) there has been an increase of 80% in same-sex couple households.
