A Working Witness to Faithfulness, Agelessness, God’s Calling, and Time June: Witness #6: Noah, a Working Witness for God

Main scriptures this month: Genesis 6: 5-8; 12-14 – The L ORD saw how great the wickedness of the human race had become on the earth, and that every inclination of the thoughts of the human heart was only evil all the time. 6 The L ORD regretted that he had made human beings on the earth, and his heart was deeply troubled. 7 So the L ORD said, “I will wipe from the face of the earth the human race I have created—and with them the animals, the birds and the creatures that move along the ground—for I regret that I have made them.” 8 But Noah found favor in the eyes of the L ORD. God saw how corrupt the earth had become, for all the people on earth had corrupted their ways. 13 So God said to Noah, “I am going to put an end to all people, for the earth is filled with violence because of them. I am surely going to destroy both them and the earth. 14 So make yourself an ark of cypress wood; make rooms in it and coat it with pitch inside and out. Genesis 7: 1, 5, 23-24 – The L ORD then said to Noah, “Go into the ark, you and your whole family, because I have found you righteous in this generation. And Noah did all that the L ORD commanded him. Every living thing on the face of the earth was wiped out; people and animals and the creatures that move along the ground and the birds were wiped from the earth. Only Noah was left, and those with him in the ark. 24 The waters flooded the earth for a hundred and fifty days. Genesis 8: 1,18 - 9:1 – But God remembered Noah and all the wild animals and the livestock that were with him in the ark, and he sent a wind over the earth, and the waters receded. So Noah came out, together with his sons and his wife and his sons’ wives. 19 All the animals and all the creatures that move along the ground and all the birds—everything that moves on land—came out of the ark, one kind after another. 20 Then Noah built an altar to the L ORD and, taking some of all the clean animals and clean birds, he sacrificed burnt offerings on it. 21 The L ORD smelled the pleasing aroma and said in his heart: “Never again will I curse the ground because of humans, even though every inclination of the human heart is evil from childhood. And never again will I destroy all living creatures, as I have done. 22 “As long as the earth endures, seedtime and harvest, cold and heat, summer and winter, day and night will never cease.” Then God blessed Noah and his sons, saying to them, “Be fruitful and increase in number and fill the earth. Hebrews 11: 7 – By faith Noah, when warned about things not yet seen, in holy fear built an ark to save his family.

Noah: A Father of Faith, Obedient Servant, and a Working Witness to the World.

Today’s Scriptures (NIV): Psalm 68:5-6a A father to the fatherless, a defender of widows, is God in his holy dwelling. 6 God sets the lonely in families… Deuteronomy 11:19-21 Teach them to your children, talking about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. 20 Write them on the doorframes of your houses and on your gates, 21 so that your days and the days of your children may be many in the land the L ORD swore to give your ancestors, as many as the days that the heavens are above the earth. Hebrews 11:7 By faith Noah, when warned about things not yet seen, in holy fear built an ark to save his family. Matthew 7:24-26 “Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. 25 The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock. 26 But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand. Colossians 3: 20-21 Children, obey your parents in everything, for this pleases the Lord. 21 Fathers, do not embitter your children or they will become discouraged.

Noah is a lasting working witness for God and his family to the whole world. 1. Noah is a lasting working witness for God and his family to the whole world.

Genesis 6:8-9 – But Noah found favor in the eyes of the L ORD. 9 This is the account of Noah and his family. Noah was a righteous man, blameless among the people of his time, and he walked faithfully with God. Hebrews 11:7 – By faith Noah, when warned about things not yet seen, in holy fear built an ark to save his family. By his faith he condemned the world and became heir of the righteousness that is in keeping with faith. Genesis 7:11-13 – In the six hundredth year of Noah’s life, on the seventeenth day of the second month—on that day all the springs of the great deep burst forth, and the floodgates of the heavens were opened. 12 And rain fell on the earth forty days and forty nights. 13 On that very day Noah and his sons, Shem, Ham and Japheth, together with his wife and the wives of his three sons, entered the ark

With Righteousness, Blameless among the people, and walking with God - Noah built the ark with holy fear.

2. God, who loves us, is The Father of all.

Psalm 68:5-6a – A father to the fatherless, a defender of widows, is God in his holy dwelling. 6 God sets the lonely in families Matthew 6:9-13 – This, then, is how you should pray: “‘Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, 10 your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. 11 Give us today our daily bread. 12 And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. 13 And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one John 1:12-13; 3:16 – Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God— 13 children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband’s will, but born of God. For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. Ephesians 1:5; 4:4-6 – In love 5 he predestined us for adoption to sonship through Jesus Christ, in accordance with his pleasure and will…There is one body and one Spirit, just as you were called to one hope when you were called; 5 one Lord, one faith, one baptism; 6 one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all. Hebrews 12:7-11 – Endure hardship as discipline; God is treating you as his children. For what children are not disciplined by their father? 8 If you are not disciplined—and everyone undergoes discipline—then you are not legitimate, not true sons and daughters at all. 9 Moreover, we have all had human fathers who disciplined us and we respected them for it. How much more should we submit to the Father of spirits and live! 10 They disciplined us for a little while as they thought best; but God disciplines us for our good, in order that we may share in his holiness. 11 No discipline seems pleasant at the time, but painful. Later on, however, it produces a harvest of righteousness and peace for those who have been trained by it.

He defends, adopts, provides, gives, dwells, loves, and disciplines.

3. Wise Fathers are to be Builders of Strong Homes and Lives.

Matthew 7:24-26 – Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. 25 The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock. 26 But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand. Deuteronomy 11:19-21 – Teach them to your children, talking about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. 20 Write them on the doorframes of your houses and on your gates, 21 so that your days and the days of your children may be many in the land the L ORD swore to give your ancestors, as many as the days that the heavens are above the earth. Joshua 24:15 – …then choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve…but as for me and my household, we will serve the Lord. Colossians 3:20-21 – Children, obey your parents in everything, for this pleases the Lord. 21 Fathers, do not embitter your children, or they will become discouraged. Psalm 103:13 – As a father has compassion on his children, so the L ORD has compassion on those who fear him; Proverbs 23:13-14 – Do not withhold discipline from a child; if you punish them with the rod, they will not die. 14 Punish them with the rod and save them from death. I Thessalonians 5:11 – Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing. Ephesians 5:25; 6:4 – Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her …Fathers, do not exasperate your children; instead, bring them up in the training and instruction of the Lord.

Proverbs 23:24 -25 – The father of a righteous child has great joy; a man who fathers a wise son rejoices in him. 25 May your father and mother rejoice; may she who gave you birth be joyful! I Timothy 5:1-2 – Do not rebuke an older man harshly, but exhort him as if he were your father. Treat younger men as brothers, 2 older women as mothers, and younger women as sisters, with absolute purity. Ephesians 6:4; 10 – Fathers, do not exasperate your children; instead, bring them up in the training and instruction of the Lord. … Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power.
