doc.: IEEE /1120r2 Submission September 2008 Guido R. Hiertz et al., PhilipsSlide 2 Abstract Here, we document the changes to the terminology of the current s draft. This document summarizes the changes that have been applied to the Word- conversion of the s draft As it contains the full draft, the latter document must not be uploaded to https://mentor.ieee.org/802.11/. Thus, we provide an overview of the changes applied.

doc.: IEEE /1120r2 Submission General changes (1) Change mesh, mesh network and WLAN mesh were meant as a wireless mesh network based on to Mesh Basic Service Set or MBSS Use the term mesh as adjective –Rational Base standard (& (approved) amendments) has several kind of STAs –HT STA (802.11n) –QoS STA ( ) –Dependent STA (802.11y) –… September 2008 Guido R. Hiertz et al., PhilipsSlide 3

doc.: IEEE /1120r2 Submission General changes (2) Replace all occurrences of MP with mesh STA resp. mesh station Replace all occurrences of MAP with mesh AP resp. mesh Access Point Replace all occurrences of MPP with portal –There is no mesh specific portal –Portals connect and non networks See Update definition section Update abbreviation section September 2008 Guido R. Hiertz et al., PhilipsSlide 4

doc.: IEEE /1120r2 Submission General changes (3) Use MBSS whenever the whole network is meant –Example: Mesh Key Distributor becomes MBSS Key Distributor Etc. –Form logical groups & give them a name The MBSS is the set of mesh STAs that cooperate on the formation of the MBSS A mesh STA is a member of exactly one MBSS September 2008 Guido R. Hiertz et al., PhilipsSlide 5

doc.: IEEE /1120r2 Submission Changes to Renaming –Mesh BSS: The Wireless mesh network Rational –Two explanatory occurrences of Wireless mesh network before MBSS is introduced Used as general description Avoids s specific terminologies before explaining them –Clause introduces the concept of Mesh Basic Service Set (MBSS) –Groups mesh STAs Mesh STAs –Are members of an MBSS September 2008 Guido R. Hiertz et al., PhilipsSlide 6

doc.: IEEE /1120r2 Submission Further changes to New picture –Separate mesh STA –AP is an additional STA service September 2008 Guido R. Hiertz et al., PhilipsSlide 7

doc.: IEEE /1120r2 Submission WDS term – killed … Delete the term Wireless Distribution System –Not useful –Confuses readers –In conflict with s September 2008 Guido R. Hiertz et al., PhilipsSlide 8

doc.: IEEE /1120r2 Submission Mesh ID Replace Mesh ID by Mesh BSSID –Cohesive with BSSID –Refer back to base standard September 2008 Guido R. Hiertz et al., PhilipsSlide 9

doc.: IEEE /1120r2 Submission Clarify ToDS/FromDS bits ToDS and FromDS bits set to 1 –A data frame using the four-address MAC header format. This standard defines procedures for using this combination of field values for the MBSS only. In an MBSS, this bit combination indicates the presence of the Mesh Control information. September 2008 Guido R. Hiertz et al., PhilipsSlide 10

doc.: IEEE /1120r2 Submission Changes to table 7-8 September 2008 Guido R. Hiertz et al., PhilipsSlide 11 Add columns that show which IE is used in which Basic Service Set –Independent (IBSS) –Infrastructure (beacon sent by AP) –Mesh (MBSS) OrderInformation Present in beacon frames sent in Notes IBSS Infra- structure BSS MBSS 4 Service Set Identifier (SSID) XXX 25Mesh ID XThe Mesh ID information element may be present within Beacon frames when dot11MeshEnabled is true. 26 Mesh Configuration XThe Mesh Configuration information element may be present within Beacon frames when dot11MeshEnabled is true. 27 Mesh TIM XThe Mesh TIM element may be present in Beacon frames generated by the mesh STA when dot11MeshEnabled is true. 28 Awake Window XThe Awake window element may be present only when dot11MeshEnabled is true. 29 Synchronizati on Protocol XThe Synchronization Protocol information element may be present within Beacon frames when dot11MeshEnabled is true. 30 Beacon Timing XThe Beacon Timing information element may be present within Beacon frames when dot11MeshEnabled is true. 31 MDAOP Advertisement s XThe MDAOP Advertisements information element may be present within Beacon frames when dot11MeshEnabled is true and the mesh STA supports MDA. 32 MSCIE X The MSCIE element may be present when dot11MeshEnabled is true.

doc.: IEEE /1120r2 Submission Concurrent work – Integration of the resolution of outstanding comments Replace all occurrences of MP with mesh STA resp. mesh station Replace all occurrences of MAP with mesh AP Replace all occurrences of MPP with portal Instruct the editor to re-create the table of contents according to the changes applied September 2008 Guido R. Hiertz et al., PhilipsSlide 12

doc.: IEEE /1120r2 Submission Outstanding (1) Some more changes to terms in MIB (Annex D) needed –Must be changed in remaining document too Referring sections etc. Provide changes to 10.3 MLME SAP interface –Will follow Change table 7-58 –Add single column for MBSS Has no CFP Uses always QoS frames September 2008 Guido R. Hiertz et al., PhilipsSlide 13 MBSS CP Mesh STA

doc.: IEEE /1120r2 Submission Outstanding (2) Further changes to table 7-8 needed –Not finished yet September 2008 Guido R. Hiertz et al., PhilipsSlide 14

doc.: IEEE /1120r2 Submission Motion Shall the editor incorporate the changes presented in this document into the latest draft of s? In doing so, the editor will be supported by a revised Word- conversion document of the draft 2.01 of s. –Yes/No/Abstain: September 2008 Guido R. Hiertz et al., PhilipsSlide 15

doc.: IEEE /1120r2 Submission September 2008 Guido R. Hiertz et al., PhilipsSlide 16 References Document s CIDs 340, 816, 867, 872, 964, 990, 1029, 1470, 1780, 1816 and many, many more
