Anorexia Nervosa Canetti Anna Α 2 E4 English Class, Senior High School 2009-2010 Ms Befa

Anorexia nervosa is an eating disorder characterized by extremely lowbody weight, distorted body image and an obsessive fear of gaining weight. The term anorexia nervosa was established in 1873 by Sir William Gull, one of Queen's Victoria's personal physicians. The term is of Greek origin: a (α, prefix of negation), n (ν, link between two vowels) and orexis (όρεξη, appetite), thus meaning a lack of desire to eat.

Anorexia Nervosa on the catwalk!

Same people claim that to be a model you have to know how to walk correctly, be beautiful, have self confidence and of course be skinny like under 45 kilos. For many young girls it is a life dream to be like Zizel or Naomi: Beautiful, famous, rich, happy. In England 50% of girls in ages 16 to 21 would like to change their appearance through surgery to have a better body. 33% would like to be skinnier. 15% are ready to have plastic surgery. 72% would like to change their teeth. 5% are ready to have a botox.

Dr. Kerry Brain, scientist in the university of Manchester said ironically: “If your bones do not throw, then you can’t be a model!”. “ For most teens it’s very important to have a standard and to be compared with it. However we need to change skinny and stupid models with that of clever and healthy ones. ”
