1 STORY TO FILM Action and Reaction

2 PART I Your group is a part of a casting team for a new film to be made on one of the stories that we have read this unit. You need to present your group’s well-thought decisions, in writing, to the director of the film. Choose current actors to play the main characters for your chosen story. In your rationale, you need to describe the character you will be casting then explain why the actor you chose is the best for the part. (be specific: for example, think of past roles the actor may have played.) You can go outside the perimeters of the book (explain how if you do) as long as you stick to the basic ideas of the plot and keep the personalities and relationships of the characters the same. You can change gender, race, and time period as long as everything is generally similar. For example, Mama, Maggie, and Dee, can be males.

3 PART II Choose two of the following: A. Create a Movie Poster: Make a movie poster for your film. This project should be on poster board and have a picture that pertains to the story. In addition, it should include the rating of the film (G, PG, PG-13, R), two reviews (for example “Two thumbs up!” – John Smith, New York Times), and a listing of the main characters with the actors playing the roles. B. Movie Reviews: Write two movie reviews for the new film – one positive and one negative. Give each review a rating (out of ten). Your reviews should comment on elements of plot, character, and setting, in additional to criticizing/praising the actors’ portrayals in their respective roles. Each review must be at least two pages, written in blue or black pen. C. Script: Write a script for one scene of the new film. Include dialogue and stage directions along with any necessary commentary in correct format. Use Antigone or Julius Caesar as examples to see how this should look (page 692 and 775). This must be at least four pages, written in blue or black pen.
