3 Mission Statement Emory Trade seeks to improve the investing skills of our members and serve our community. By sharing our knowledge of investing and teaming up with other professionals, we will be educated investors. Ultimately, we will purchase equities and sell them for the benefit of our members and the community.

5 Short Lesson on Stocks What’s a stock?  It represents ownership of a company's assets and profits. Why do a stock go up?  Demand of the stock When more people are trying to buy a stock than want to sell it at the current price.  When the market's expectation of future earnings for a company goes up. Why invest?  Make more money than you would with bank’s current low interest rate of 1.49% All investments involve risk, but risk is minimized when you practice safe investing correctly. Diversify your portfolio - One way to reduce your risk.

6 Lesson (Buy + Sell) Quantity x Price = Cost (Before) Buy 100 shares x $10 = $1000 (After) Sell 100 shares x $20 = $2000  Profit = $1000 (not including commission)

7 Lesson (Buy + Sell) Quantity x Price = Cost (Before) Buy 100 shares x $20 = $2000 (After) Sell 100 shares x $10 = $1000  Loss = $1000 (not including commission)

8 Evaluating stocks Earnings per share (EPS)  Total income from company divided by how many shares outstanding. Price to Earnings (P/E Ratio)  Current price of a stock divided by how much the company is making (Or Price / EPS). Example: $30 / $2 = 15 PE ratio Dividend  Company decides how much money they want to distribute their income to investors. Usually paid to investors quarterly.
