The volume of feedback means that results can be taken as representative of the views for the whole school. Each year group is reasonably well represented. The ratings used are ‘Average Score’ (the 1 to 5 rating scales used have a neutral score of 3.0 and a best score of 5.0) and ‘Top Two box scores’. An example of how this works is: “Q: How much do you like dogs? A: 3 say ‘dislike very much’, 0 say ‘dislike’, 0 say ‘neither like nor dislike’, 27 say ‘like’ and 30 say ‘like very much’” Average score = ((1*3pts) + (0*2pts) + (0*3pts) + (27 * 4 pts) + (30 * 5pts) )/60= 4.35 out of 5 Top Two box score = 100*(27+30)/60 = 95% Both scores should be looked at together – strongly polarised opinions may generate similar average scores to ‘neutral’ feedback but higher Top Two box scores, for example (as is likely in the above example).
