Why are we here today? A number of different converging statewide projects underway Opportunity for your district to capitalize on participation Lane ESD is prepared to support districts and facilitate efforts

What do we expect to achieve? That you will… -Have an awareness of statewide data initiatives. -Understand the implications for your district. -Have a sense of next steps and how you can access ESD services.

Where we’ve been… KIDS Project KIDS 1 KIDS 2 KIDS 3 RFP/Aw Infrastructure Architecture, Standards Implementation with Data Warehouse DATA Project RFP Award Implementation TLC Project Concept Initial Training Implementation *KIDS – Pre-K through Grade 16 Integrated Data Systems – Project Lead: Oregon Department of Education * DATA Project – Direct Access to Achievement – Project Leads: Education Enterprise and ODE * TLC – Teaching & Learning Connection – Project Lead: Education Enterprise (partnership between OAESD and ODE) 2005 2006 2007 2008

Data SourcesData Uses KIDS* III Project Overview For 14 of Lane County’s 16 districts Data Warehouse services will be provided by Lane ESD via a contract with Willamette ESD’s data warehouse. Data Warehouse Six established data warehouses in Oregon Every district in Oregon must be affiliated with one of the six data warehouses by October 2009. District Student Information System Extract, Transform, Load (ETL) Process to extract data from data systems As needed/determined Scheduled nightly Other Student Data Systems (OSAT, SWIS, for example) Originating District/School “Dashboard” available for analysis and decision making related to student achievement Other Districts/Schools within Oregon Student record transfer Higher Education Student Transcripts for college admissions Oregon Department of Education Reporting student data = Future Functionality Longitudinal Data “The Growth Project” *KIDS – Pre-K through Grade 16 Integrated Data Systems http://www.ode.state.or.us/search/results/?id=349 Statewide Effort to develop a data structure to streamline data acquisition and reporting

DATA* Project Overview PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT STRANDS Data Certification District and School Data Coordinators TECHNICAL INSTRUCTIONAL Data to Improve Student Learning School Administrators & Teachers Lane ESD is participating in the statewide effort on behalf of Lane County School Districts. Training will be provided at venues around the state, including Lane County. Complementary training and support on best practice and strategies (i.e.., PBS, RTI, etc.) will be provide by Lane ESD. * DATA Project – Direct Access to Achievement http://oregondataproject.org/ Instructional Strands will incorporate Teaching & Learning Connection (TLC) initiative (Data Driven Decision Making, Making Standards Work, etc.) Data 101 School Data Entry Staff Data Coordination District and School Data Coordinators Creating a Data Culture District Administrators Data to Improve Student Learning District / School Administrators Statewide staff development strategy for the effective utilization of data to improve student outcomes.

How it fits together System for Continuous Improvement System Tools Implementation Timelines What does it mean to you?

System of Continuous Improvement What do you need to teach? How do you know learning occurred? TLC & DATA Project System Tools Data Warehouse ESP Network

Effective School Practices Response to Intervention Framework Aligning Behavior (PBS), Math, and Literacy Systems Data Warehouse KIDS Project supporting data access and retrieval DATA Project support staff development Teaching & Learning Connection Making Standards Work Including “Unwrapping” the Standards Data Driven Decision Making Data Teams System Tools

Implementation Timelines KIDS 3 Project Lane County Data Warehouse Implementation – Lane ESD contracting with Willamette ESD for data warehouse services Technical Training Development – RFP to develop curriculum awarded to Clackamas ESD Lane ESD is represented on the KIDS and DATA Project Task Forces, and will coordinate training for Lane County Schools. DATA Project Creating a Data Culture Data to Improve Student Learning in Districts and Schools Data to Improve Student Learning in the Classroom Joint Project Plan/Coordination Training Sessions will be provided regionally

What does this mean to you? Resources for making student and instruction decisions that are more informed and timely by providing… efficient access to data aggregated from multiple systems into a readily-accessible single point of access formats that are easy-to-use and present up-to-date information for timely decision making increased data validity (i.e., eliminates manual data aggregation) Tools and training for assessing district’s CIP progress for more frequent decision making cycles. …continued

What does this mean to you? Increased knowledge on data analysis –for district staff –school administrators –teachers Access to statewide resources Collaboration with Lane ESD and other districts

Data Warehouse Following are example “dashboards” available via Willamette ESD’s data warehouse. “Dashboard” refers to the online graphic screen display that provides summary data from the data warehouse, with the option to “drill down” to detailed data. Dashboard Examples

Did we meet our goal? Do you…. -Have an awareness of statewide data initiatives? -Understand what the implications might be for your district? -Have a sense of next steps and how you can access ESD’s services?
