THE HEART OF JESUS Luke 19:1-10

 We live in a world filled with DISTRACTIONS.  They grab our attention.  If we are not careful, they can make lose our desire for God.  Religious activity is not always equal to spiritual maturity.

 We must be careful that we are not distracted with the practice and neglect the person of Jesus.  HE alone must be the undivided pursuit of our lives.  HE must be the supreme hunger of our hearts.

 Bill Bright, founder of Campus Crusade for Christ said, “Millions of surveys taken around the world indicate that 98 percent of Christians do not regularly introduce others to the Savior.”

 What is the heart of Christ’s mission and passion for the church?  How can we be the voice of truth to those who are lost?  There are five things we can learn from Jesus.

1. JESUS SOUGHT HIM (v.1-5)  We must be willing to go after people because they are looking and screaming for hope and answers.  It was Jesus who was looking for Zacchaeus.

 Jesus is looking for lost sinners more than lost sinners are looking for Him.  It has been said, “Too many Christians are no longer fishers of men but keepers of the aquarium.”

2. JESUS CARED FOR HIM (v.5)  We must care enough to find out more about them.  Jesus called Zacchaeus by name.  It is hard to tell someone what you know until you show them how much you care.

3. JESUS FELLOWSHIPPED WITH HIM. (v.5,6)  We must be willing to go to them.  To their homes, into their culture.

Story  Years ago an alcoholic came to Christ.  Friends asked –”Do you really believe the Bible?”  “Did Jesus really change water to wine?”  Friends laughed at him.

 Yes, I do, he said.  I also believe He can turn whisky into things.  Jesus turned it into food for my family.  Put clothes on my kids.  Made it into peace and love for my family.

4. JESUS SHARED THE TRUTH WITH HIM. (v.8-9)  We must be willing to say what the Lord says.  They do not need our opinions or our criticism.  They need the Truth.

 The truth changed Zacchaeus.  The truth will change everyone who comes to the truth of Christ.  We exist to call people to the truth.

5. JESUS TAUGHT HIM HOW TO LIVE AND GIVE (v.8-10)  The Gospel is about making disciples  It is also about knowing how to live obediently for Christ.  It teaches us to honestly give to Christ.

 Jesus taught Zacchaeus how to live honestly.  Jesus taught Zacchaeus how to give generously.  We must teach new believers how to live for Christ.  Those of us who have grown in Christ, must show the way.

 If we want to reach people for Christ, then we must follow the example of Jesus.

 We need to seek the lost, care for them, fellowship with them, share the truth with them, teach them how to live and how to give their lives for Christ.  It is an eternal investment of your life into another.
