REPUBLIC DAY is the name of a holiday in many countries to commemorate the day when they became republics. The REPUBLIC DAY OF INDIA commemorates the date on which the CONSTITUTION OF INDIA came into force replacing the GOVERNMENT OF INDIA ACT 1935 as the governing document of India on 26 January 1950. The date 26 January was chosen to honour the memory of the DECLARATION OF INDEPENDENCE of 1930. It is one of the three NATIONAL HOLIDAYS. IN INDIA, and while the main parade, REPUBLIC DAY PARADE takes place at the RAJPATH, in the national capital NEW DE LHI, where the President views the parade, state capitals also have their state celebrations.
Indian Constitution came into force on JANUARY 26, 1950; it was the day when India declared itself SOVEREIGN, DEMOCRATIC and REPUBLIC state. The roots for the establishment of this day are from the Lahore Session of Indian National Congress at the midnight of 31 st December, 1929-1 st January,1930 when the tri–colour flag was unfurled by the nationalists. The Indian Republic officially came into being on JANUARY 26, 1950.
A pledge was taken that REPUBLIC DAY will be celebrated on 26 January every year and that the people of the country will unceasingly strive for the establishment of a SOVEREIGN DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC OF INDIA
