1 Reading Nutrition Labels

2 Serving Sizes 1. The blue indicates how large a serving size is and how many serving sizes there are in the whole package. If there are two serving sizes then you will be eating double the amount of calories!

3 Calories 2. The red shows the amount of calories. A calorie is a measure of how much energy you will get from the food.

4 % Daily Value 3. The purple shows how much percent of food compared to how much you should eat each day. Beware, these percentages are based off of a 2,000 calorie diet.

5 What to Avoid 4. Yellow is what you want to avoid! These are foods that you will get in almost everything you eat. Fat is also really bad for you, and always try to avoid the saturated kind.

6 Nutrients 5. The green shows the foods that you want to get enough of such as vitamins. They help your body function well. If you eat more of these in your food, then you may be able to eat less pill vitamins.

7 Sugar 6. Warning! Always try to get foods with a small percentage of sugar. Sugar can be really bad for your body and sugar also equals more calories!

8 Daily Values 7. The orange shows how much of each type of food you need each day.

9 Helpful Tips! Check the serving size Check the daily values: – 5% or less is a low source of the nutrient – 20% or more is a high source of the nutrient

10 Exit Ticket Does this food contain a high or low percentage of fat content? Does this food contain a high or low percentage of Cholesterol? Does this food contain a high or low percentage of Carbohydrate?
